To add to this, I found that the driver's side hood touches ( at times ) the shock tower. My solution was to apply some adhesive to a small piece of flat rubber (I snipped a mountain bike tube) to the top of the hood (yes it was attractive) and the noise stopped.

Bumping this old thread because I have an infuriating hood rattle that I can't figure out. I bought the rubber bump stops, which helped for a little while, but now the rattling is back with a vengeance (and the rubber bump stops are still attached). I tried tightening down the latches on the hood, but that only seemed to make the problem worse. I am almost certain the rattling is due to the hood latch hooking up with the locking mechanism in the engine bay as I can reproduce the same rattling sound by pushing down slightly on the hood when closed.
I would like to find new hood ejectors but googling the part numbers doesn't come up with any options to purchase them. I am willing to try anything to get the hood rattling to stop. It's annoying and embarrassing when others are in the car with me! I need all the help I can get here! |

Thanks for bumping this post! I've been chasing down a rattle under the hood. I have one of the buffer stops missing and one spring loaded bump stop broken. Happy Day!

Sure, no problem. Hope that it helps your issue. I also discovered that the P/N for the bump stops on the first page is incorrect. Here is the part number for the high-strength bump stop: 51248187291
Ordered two and hopefully this solves my issue. |

An update: my hood rattling persists. So far, I have put in the rubber bump stops, adjusted the hinge catches on the hood, and replaced the hood ejectors. I also replaced the front sway bar end links (and the suspension was changed out with bilstein B4s about two months ago).
I am running out of ideas. Can anyone help out? The rattling is most obvious while braking over rough roads and certainly sounds like metal-on-metal rattling coming from the hood. If I should look elsewhere, please chime in. Willing to try anything. |

Tighten the bolts on the strut bars that run from the strut to the centre/rear of the engine compartment. It's a known noise issue.

Well, problem solved. Turned out the tophat bolt on my driver's side front strut was not torqued all the way and it was causing all kinds of racket. Torqued it down this afternoon and voila, no more noises. Feel kind stupid, but happy it was fixed!
Now, what to do with the new control arms, control arm bushings, tie rods, and sway bar end links that were delivered today.... |
