Burning smell
I have a 2004 Z4. 71k miles
If I do not use the car for a week or so there is a burning smell the first time I drive it. And this past weekend I actually notice smoke coming into the car. Not sure why. I am not burning oil, I check, and I am not leaking anti freeze. No idea why I am getting this. Noticed it a few times now but only if I don't drive the car. If I drive it everyday its fine. Bob |

Exact same issue with mine, let it sit a few days and I get that burning smell. Have the gasket and other bits ready, just waiting for a warmer day to head into the garage.

I had something similar in my X1. Check my thread. Not sure if your engine has the same thing but shaft pump seal was gone on mine and it caused smoke and burning smells.

With a valve cover leak you won't lose significant amounts of oil, or see anything coming out the tailpipe. You may or may not be able to see the oil if you look around the edge of the valve cover. It usually shows up as a dark trail as dust/debris sticks to the oil.
