Looking for a driver Z4M. What do we think of this one?
https://www.txautogroup.com/inventor...-m/m08060-ada/
Long time reader, first time caller. As the title states. Currently own a 128i 6MT with 105k miles. I've taken care of all the important maintenance items in my three years of ownership, added TC Kline DA coilovers, and upgraded to 135i brakes front and rear. At one point, I had dreams of tracking it, but never really got around to it. As a 'daily' it only sees about 3000 miles a year. I've lusted after the Z4M since they were new. It's the only thing I'd consider selling my 1er for. I got a wild hair and started browsing this morning, which lead me to the Z4m linked above. Sales guy says it's perfect but we all know what his word is worth. Anyway, was hoping to get some input from the group based on the photos in the ad, and a recommendation for a PPI in the Houston area. Finally, price seems low for a Z4m, but high for the mileage with a minor damage history. Pending PPI, what would be a good offer to start negotiations? 1er eye candy attached. |

I think at the minimum you need to arrange a PPI. Other's may have recommendations but I generally start by inquiring with the local BMWCCA group ( https://www.houston-bmwcca.com/ ) Generally they can provide the best independent shop for a car of a specific age. You might also ask if the selling dealer can connect you with the last owner , if they know whom that is.
Car looks to be in good shape, front bumper may have been resprayed? Looks too clean for 100K miles, I should know my car is approaching 90K. I would not let the miles scare you, just a matter of determining what shape the car is in. At bare minimum I would hope the cooling system, belts, bushings, suspension etc. have been overhauled. If not can add that as a negotiation item Digging through the classifieds section here and creating a Want To Buy is a worthwhile exercise too. Can find a car that is not officially for sale which is how I found mine. http://www.z4mcoupebuyersguide.com/listings |

It looks okay, get a PPI to be sure and have them do a compression test if the dealer will let you. See if they have any maintenance records for the car.
$30k seems to be the entry fee for the MC these days, just know that you'll spend at least another $5-6k to get it in the shape.

In response to some of the other comments, I wouldn't consider a car without a PPI. I need to do some homework this week on things to look for in a Z4M. This one was first listed in October and the price keeps coming down, so I'm wondering if I'm missing something obvious. |

All good, valid points, Efthreeoh. Thanksf for the insight. I'm one town to the right of Culpeper, and with roads like these, you know as well as I do why I need this car ;-) The extra TLC required by the S54 is part of the appeal, frankly. It's an engine I can maintain myself, unlike modern powerplants requiring thousands upon thousands of specialized tools and diagnostic equipment.
And by way of update, I flew up to PA on Saturday and met up with wdb who graciously drove out in his beautifully maintained Interlagos Z4M to meet with me. We took a drive and I got to experience that beautiful S54 for myself. Needless to say, I'm certifiably addicted. Stay tuned... |

Nice interlagos there. What suspension is it on?
OP I do not think that car is worth 30k. I would pay about 25-27 for it max. And 100k is when you need to start refreshing/refurbishing things. You will need about 5 grand for maintenance items like rod bearing, vanos bullet proofing, all the fluids and suspension components here and there. I would assume none of those have been addressed

Oop, guess I forgot to update the thread. Thanks to all for your suggestions, but I talked wdb out of his Coupe in February and I'm loving every mile!

Excellent news! Enjoy. Out of curiosity, what did it set you back? I know coupes are pretty dear. That car is obviously in awesome shape. How many miles are on it?
