Bad Luck with Nitto Invo's
Tried them for ~500 miles. Driven "normally", below 7/10ths, they were more than adequate.
Driven above 7/10s, which I strive to do for at least 30 min every day, they were disappointing. Grip was good, price was good, BUT They have weird and VERY ANNOYING tire squeal thanks to the triangular grooves on the shoulders of the tire. When you corner hard enough to roll the edges a bit, you get a jitter mixed into the squeal, as in "bree-bree-bree-bree-bree-bree-bree" that made me want to burn them when I heard it. Altering tire pressure helped a little, but at 42 hot they still jitter-squealed far too much for my taste. If you don't drive your Z4 hard, maybe they'd suit you, but it you corner near the limits, stay away from the Invo's. I replaced them with a set of Falken 452s, much much better. This represents only my own opinions & experience, YMMV. regards rob |

Thanks for the heads up. I have similar feedback/warning with regard to the Dunlop Direzza DZ101.
I normally run r-compounds daily (Nitto NT-01s), and let's just say I use them to their fullest, so maybe my expectations for a tire are a little higher than average. I shredded one of them the other day and didn't have time wait for new NT-01s (or any decent tire) to be shipped and the Dunlop DZ101s were the only thing I could find locally in my size (245-40-18, 275-35-18). Suffice to say, my car feels like it's been neutered. Horrible directional stability (it now takes considerable focus and input just to keep the car from wandering between lanes on the freeway), very numb response, atrocious turn-in feel... It basically feels like I'm driving on warmed over gummy bears. These tires might be fine on an Eclipse, but they have no place on a serious sports car. "Ultra High Performance" my ass. Hardcore driving buyer beware.

I also have the Nitto Invo's and I do push them pretty hard on a daily basis since my commute consists of a very windy road and a few hairpin off ramps...
It takes the tires at least 1000 miles to break in. I've had them for about 1200 miles now and they are fabulous. They did squeal for the first few hundred miles when pushed to the limits, but now they are wonderful. My next tire will be the Hankook Ventus V12 Evo K110's though. Those intrigue me, especially now that tirerack carries them. |
