alternative aerodynamic underplates/trays?

Has anyone ever tried to fit the center underplate/trayfrom an E89?
So that's the cover that sits roughly over (or under ) the gearbox.

I've bought the small aluminium underplate from the facelift z4 (the pre-fl doesn't have that), but it's pretty small and still leaves a considerable area uncoverd in the bottom, which still acts as a wind pocket.
The e89 has a large bottom tray which roughly has the same shape as the e85, so maybe that can be fitted with minor modifications.

Has anyone ever tried something like that (or made an equivalent)?

And the purpose of this is what exactly? Better aerodynamics with the E89 plate?

Yes, flat underside=less air disturbance/turbulance=less drag, more stable on high speeds.
Might be quite noticeable on the autobahn where speeds of 120mph+ are quite common

And it protects the car more from the elements.

If you look at the 3&5 series, they have much more undertrays. Even the old e46.
So in that case the z4 (even the e89) is left a little behind.

Wow good to know. I'm assuming the E89 plate will be more expensive than the E85

This is the area I want to mask.
I've bought that plate, but it's pretty tiny, smaller than I expected.

Nice colour
