scann tool no reading

I have 3 yellow warning light on my dash and plugged my innova 3160d to obd ll port but it wouldn't connect to my car. The scanner works with other veichels so I'm sure the tool is ok. Will this tool work with my bmw or will need something else?
Could i try disconnecting the negative terminal from the battery for a few min. to clear the lights.
I have yellow brake, dsc, & flat tire warning lights.

That looks like a high quality reader. I'm surprised it won't connect.
Can you go to a local auto parts store and borrow their reader?
AutoZone used to loan them out in CA, but now it's illegal.
If you think you'll be reading more codes, you may want to invest in something like the Peake Research reader. Not very fancy, but reasonably cheap and reads BMW specific codes.

Yea I'm surprised it didn't connect too. Took it to my jeep gc and it connected right up. I understand that I'll be limited with that scanner, but thought it should connect and read codes if any. Going to call innova tech support tomorrow for help.
I'm sure also going to check battery voltage later to eliminate that possibility.
