Z4 M Roadster = crack.

Hey all, first post on the forum, just had to say I test drove the Z4 M roadster (red one and my god. The numbers, the reviews, the comments, the talk just cannot really describe the car once you are in the drivers seat. Its an extremly visceral car, you can really feel the engine, the steering, the suspenion, every bit of this car feels like its an extension of your very being. I felt in total control and at the same time in the back of my mind I wondered at what level of this cars performance I was actually driving at. Anyways, one simple test drive really won me over on this car.

And so this forum is reborn for discussion on the Z cars. I like z4um generally, but it has just too much of a British tilt to it and could never get well acclimated there so this place has a more usa tilt to it. Let me know if theres any suggestions for improvement, etc etc, and of course welcome !!

Regards

Mark

Greetings to all! Picked my Z4 M coupe in July. It is a little raw as others have said but for me better than "refined" character of something like Cayman.
Bob

Also just noticed you have spell checker built in to the message reply box-great idea!

Just drove the Z4 Coupe M yesterday, awesome car. I have owned 3 Porsches (993 Carrera 4, Boxster S, and 996 C4S) and the Z4M is so much more visceral and exciting. It is more like a go cart than a car, and it has a better ride than the C4S! I am planning to order one for February delivery. Going with Titanium Silver and Nappa red Leather. Any advice or comments from your knowledgable community are more than welcome.

dadC4s: congrats! You've just discovered what BMW does soooo well... providing a visceral driving experience while still preserving a nice solid comfortable ride.

Welcome to the site.

Hey, I've been driving my M Coupe on the autobahn ( I live in germany) for the past 3 days the damn thing gets to 100 mph without even thinking about it. After the 1200 miles service on Tuesday, I'll let you know how it drives at top speed.

OH, and I can do this everyday, not just when I "go to the track"

HAHAHAHA

Post M Coupe on the Autobahn

I'll say this...for a car with a 155 mph limit, it sure gets to 165 mph quick! I'll let you know how fast it goes in the daylight when i'm not afraid of crashing into a truck around the next turn. And for those of you who want to drive it over 100 mph, I definately recommend hitting the sport button, it gives you much better control at those speeds.

God I love this Car!!!

Proof

I guess 165-168 is the top speed thanks to the governor. She has more in her though.

Rumor has it that the speed limiter is only active if you are in 6th gear. Were you in 5th or 6th when you got up past 155mph?

i usually shift from 5th to 6th around 150mph, anything faster than that and I am too close to the redline...i don't feel like blowing up my new ride. 168 is plenty fast though!! eventhough it would be cool to go faster...

It does indeed have more. Funny you put that up, i just broke 150 in mine and i ran out of road before i could go any faster. LOL What an incredible rush. Its the feeling of a roller coaster but even more exhilarating, knowing its just you and your car traveling at such high speeds. Who needs drugs...when you have an M roadster. That should be the tag line!

it's funny you should say you and your car, I've had my wife and one of my buddies with me when i hit the top speed. Although I've moved back to the states now and I'm waiting for the MCoupe to get here. Needless to say it'll be disappointing when it gets here and ther are speed limits to follow.

"Z4 M Roadster = crack."
ummmm yup

I started out looking at the E92 335.... test drove it at least 8 times.
I just couldn't pull the trigger.

And then.....
2 seconds into a test drive with the Z4 M roady... it was game over.
2 months later.... Still can't get the silly a$$ grin off my face.

Talking In that first break in period...

This is my first experience with a sophisticated sports car and am curious about some of the comments posted here related to the recommended break in schedule. It seems as if someone taking the car for a test drive may not follow these restrictions and I have read that the engines are tested at high RPMs at the factory. That being said, is there any concern about real harm to the engine if you slip above 5500 rpm for a second or two? Also, what if you slip just above the moving "redline" indicated by the oil temp. I'm sure you all know how hard it is to hold back!
