Need Opinions on Some Wheels

Picking up a new set of wheels soon, and I'm having trouble deciding between a couple sets. I'm looking for a nice fit without using any spacers. Stock suspension right now, but may pick up some h&r coilovers too

What I'm looking at:

Apex PS-7, anthracite or silver
F: 19x8.5 ET35
R: 19x9.5 ET22

I like these a lot, but they're just a little too curvy IMO. From some angles it looks like a tangled ball of wire to me

VMR v803, probably gunmetal, gold is nice too
F: 19x8.5 ET35
R: 19x9.5 ET25

I like these a lot too, even in the gold finish Not sure the rest of my car is nice enough to pull these off though lol

Any thoughts on styling or the sizes? Car is white on red

I like both also. But my vote is likely going to Apex, not only for the lighter weight, but also for being JWL tested and certified. VMR claimed to meet JWL requirements, but I don't see any certification stampings on their wheels.

I think EC7's (pretty sure thats the style) would be a better choice. The VMR's are definitely different though.

I'm pretty sure Arick has a set of these on his car if not something very similar.

I googled like a madman this weekend trying to find these on another Z and couldn't, but there are a ton with EC-7's which are very similar

Re: JWL, I had to look this up as I'm not a wheel guy. Eddy from Apex provides an eye-opening description of certs in this thread http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=596608

Not sure how to tell if any company has "met the requirements" or actually met the requirements... I guess I could reach out to each rep and ask for proof, but from what he's saying some companies fake that too? FWIW, VMR says they're JWL/TUV/etc certified

VMR only claimed to "meet" JWL requirements on their website. I guessed we can verify their certification if someone have access to the VIA or TUV database.

I would be very hesitant to put 19s on the car unless your areas have some of the best paved roads. I've already have minor bends on a couple of my OE 18s and the roads here in OC aren't that bad

San Jose is like driving on the moon, but I usually DD to work and know how to avoid the craters. I've read mixed but generally favorable things about h&r coilovers, seems like a good deal too at $1200 new. This slippery slope I'm on has me about ready to order a set

I know how you feel. I want a new set of wheels too, but can't find the extra space in the garage to store the OE set

Back to your wheels, I'm beginning to see that "tangled ball of wire" too now on those PS-7. I think the EC-7 is a bit better in that department (less curves).

Ordered the v803's in gunmetal. Really wanted the bronze but there's a 4-week lead time and I can't wait that long on my crummy tires damn you El Niño

We carry a similar style called the UP720 in a 19" staggered set. Available in many different offsets. Feel free to contact us with any questions at all.

LOL, are you serious? I recently had the pleasure of driving around San Jose and Campbell. Those are the best paved roads I've driven on in the past 10 years.

Good choice - personally I like the VMRs a little better too. Those Apex rims look funny to me for the same reasons you stated - they look too curvy from certain angles. I hope you have a BBK though, you'll need some nice rotors and calipers to pull off rims with thin spokes.

I wish I could get a picture of this pothole near my house, I have to take my coffee out of the cupholder every morning before I go over it or it'll splash everywhere. You must've been on the other side of town I thought about the brakes too, and Id be lying if I said I wasn't nervous. BBK would be a tough sell with the wife.

^^those are nice

the V803's came in this weekend and I had them mounted. The guy that did the mounting dinged one of the wheels in 3 spots exactly why I hate letting other people touch the Z!

Coilovers incoming (and maybe aero skirts...), will post better photos when everything is installed. I'm really digging these, the offsets worked out great excuse the dirt and uneven ground

Service and quality from VMR have been fantastic, no complaints

Looking good
Are you gonna have issues getting in and out of the garage once lowered?

^^I was eyeballing it the other day, there's a decent slope but I think I have at least a couple inches going through. I'm hoping that if I keep the drop less than an inch I'll be OK... parts should get here by the weekend, I'll find out soon

Hey that looks great if you don't paint your calipers. Looks like you have plenty of clearance with a normal drop, but maybe not slammed or with sideskirts. Better measure that hump.
