Yes there is no need to have tension between the two groups. We are of two different class. If anyone could afford an M they would buy it rather then a 335 or 135. I know the Z4M lost value but not other M's. I would never buy a 335 or 135 and get the tune to 400hp. If I had the money I would buy the M5 or M6.

Yeah but you can buy a 335i and tune it to 400hp for <50K

M6 and M5 are both >80K.

I agree that it is cheap. If one thinks like that then get a civic and make it faster for less then 50K man. Like I said my friend if I had the money I would buy the M5 or M6. If you go and buy a nice loaded 335 its in thee >50K.

I've only been able to run on the 1/8 mile and I got an 8.6 at 83. This was bone stock on the horrible stock tire too, I think at a good track an 8.5 stock is possible. I used a calculator on line that tells you what your 0-60 should be from your 1/8 mile time and trap speed and got a 4.49. I don't think this is too accurate though. That depends highly on the engine and how the vehicle is geared so I doubt a simple calculator would be accurate.

and MRulz... you can't get a civic faster than a moded 335i for under 50K. Trust me I know this for sure. I used to be into modding Civics

yes but don't forget that with 400hp you'll need to upgrade suspension and brakes to match. its more than just HP that's different between the non-m cars and the M cars. that said, the 335 is an amazing chassis and a great place to start.

Sheesh. People just don't get it. The M cars aren't about going fast. They're about the driving experience. Faster does make a better driving experience but there are other things the N/A M has over the TT engined cars. For example, throttle response, linear power build up, high revving, sweet sounding, reliability, and on and on. Maybe you can make a civic faster. But is it as nice a car to drive then? Remember two things:

1. Speed is expensive. How fast can you afford to go?
2. No matter how fast you are, someone else is always faster.

Actually that is not true. There are several different speed records that have not been broken in a long time.

I sold a much faster car to buy this one. The M is a complete car that I enjoy every second of. I don't worry about who is faster- I could really give a $hit.

I didn't get this car because its faster than a Lambo or a Corvette Z06. I got it because its an M. World reknown for style, elegance and the purity of car/driver and the BMW spirit it instills...

I get more looks, stares and questions thrown at me than any other car I've owned...

0-60? I could care less... its plenty fast, I never bought this car for "drag racing" but I can tell you, its under 5 seconds... good enough for me.

I just wanted to ask if anyone knows the true time for the BMW Z4 3.0's. I don't think it matters what year does it ? I just want to know the 0-60 times for this particular 3.0 engine because I might be getting a used 04 - 06 Z4, and was really interested. Thanks.

I think it matters whether it's the 3.0si engine or the 3.0i. What exactly do you mean true time, anyway? C&D gets 5.5 sec for the 3.0si.

I also mean the true time, because after googlin around the 0-60 times, I get results ranging from 5.7 seconds to 6.7

Take the one you want to buy for a drive and time it yourself. Just because one Z 3.0 goes 0 - 60 in 5.5 sec doesn't mean that all Z 3.0's will do it in 5.5 sec. Some will be faster, some will be slower, and some might be the same. And as most of the other comments in this thread, most people are buying the Z for it's driving pleasure, the cars speed being secondary. I've never tried a redline 0 - 60, in my car, most people here really don't do a 0-60 every time they take off from a stop light anyhow. Enjoy the car for what it is.

0 to 60 matters but then again not. A car might have a slower 0 to 60 or the same as your and might smoke the hell out of you after that. Go drive one like rc'Z advised; you will like it.

I never really thought that much about getting a Z because not all the "auto world" overly raves about the car. Thought there were better sports cars readily available. After I drove one, changed my mind completely. The "auto world" might not really know what they are talking about when it comes to these cars. This car kind of reminds me of a Porsche. People that own Porsche's like them because they are driver cars first, then performance cars. I think the same applies to the Z, it is a drivers car.

Boy is that silly. I could afford an "M" and more (Cayman), but felt that the 3.0si was plenty enough for me, especially for a weekend toy. Priorities...some of us have others. The M isn't the top of the mountain, man. Many folks would rather a base Cayman than a top of the line Z, you know.

Frankly, with the known tranny issues (and other things), the M Coupe was on my do not buy list. They were giving them away when I purchased mine (October 2007).

I have TMS Underdrive pullies, H&R springs, and a little over 100 LBS of weight reduction. I had a little under 1/4 Tank of fuel.

I got it more for the gas mileage since I commute 80 miles every day. But now that I am moving closer to work I want an M...
