Just M-Case

I got tired of all my "emergency" stuff rolling around in the trunk loose so I bought a case for everything. It's definitely overkill but it does neaten up the trunk. I've asked my mother-in-law to sew a nice tight-fitting spare tire cover as my Christmas present. That'll help too.

Nice!! I like the idea of storing the jack that way. What are the dimensions of your case?

Not as fancy, but I have a small tool/military bag that I keep all my "sheeeet" in.

Sean, that's probably the way to go with our limited trunk space but I wasn't able to find anything I thought worked quite right. I did consider building my own box but with the spare tire nothing really fits right anyway.

LC, I'll have to check on dimensions but I got the case from http://www.caseclub.com/. They have anything and everything in any size you could imagine.

You have a spare tire for an ///M?
I'm on the cusp of going to run-flats (yuck) after getting stranded on a busy freeway.
I don't want to go through that again.

itdnwiwbp,

Very nice! But what's a "spare tire"?

Just kidding. I carry a small tool bag in the trunk and a separate tire-repair kit, including a tiny electric pump. But my tripod bag slides around back there, and I've been thinking there ought to be a good way to tie it down along with a couple of other miscellaneous things. Your case is an elegant solution.

I seem to remember that all of the spares I looked at said "Except CSL", which I figured meant "except honkin' 345mm brakes" like we have on the Z4M.

Got everything necessary to remove my front bumper too...just in case it needs to get on a rollback towtruck.

After reading this I started to think and realized I'd never actually test fit the spare to the front. I just took the dealer's word for it. Shame on both of us! For anyone reading this thinking they can use the M3 spare it DOES NOT fit the front. So...for all you non-M guys my spare will probably be for sale on here soon...

Not so fast. Thinking this was probably the case, I started wondering which is worse:

1) Sitting around for an hour or more waiting for a tow truck
a) Watching the car get scraped up or possible front suspension
damage getting it on the tow truck
b) Spending 1/2 hour riding with the driver
c) Watching the car get scraped up coming off the tow truck
2) Put the spare on the back
a) Put the back on the front
b) Crab home like Zoidberg going for a scuttle
Hmmm. OH wait. The back on the front would probably rub unless you also were carrying a spacer and bolts.

I'm running 10" in the rear. Wonder if I could limp home on that without seriously screwing anything up. Interesting thought. Might see just how much of a disaster that would be tomorrow in the garage.
