Let talk Wiper Blades!

I'm pretty much driving with no blades since the rubber piece tore off the other day. What does everybody recommend? I am open to trying aftermarket, and also okay with OEM.

Are replacement insert still available?

Thanks! luckily it doesnt rain in Socal until later in the year!

For dealing with Seattle weather I've had the best luck with the OEM inserts. I had a pair of Bosch Icons turn into a noisy streaky mess after 2 months and the OEM ones I have now just might be almost a year old.

Too bad the inserts aren't available anymore.

I got a pair of those Rain X blades and in Germany they're great. Rain/snow/mud/bugs, no streaks

The dealer just changed mine out (extended maintenance), so they must still have the inserts. The invoice doesn't show the full wiper head, just the blades.

I find the rainX lattitudes to work the best, but I usually use Bosch icons because the look soooooooo much better. The rainX's are probably 15% better. if you live somewhere with a lot of rain (not seattle, i mean actual rain like upstate NY or Minnesota) you might want to go with the rainXs.

Garage List
I've been driving for 33 years now and have tried almost every blade out there. Some are slightly better than others but none really last more than 6 months before they start streaking or chattering. There is no real advantage to spending $20-30 per side for some brands. Some aftermarket blades don't conform to the bottom right corner (about a 3 inch triangle). My recomendation would be either get the refill from the dealer or buy a cheap aftermarked set like Anco every 6 months and use Rain-X liberally and fill your washers with Rain-X wiper fluid.

This reminded me of a question I had....

My drivers side blade has a little "spoiler" on it (not sure what up call it) that add's extra downforce in the wind. The passenger side does not. My questions was - is this stock? If so, should I have 2?

Just curious........

Stick with OEM, $13 bucks using part number 61611470281, includes both sides. Takes five minutes and they work great.

It's funny you guys mention OEM wiper inserts. I've been denied from my local BMW dealer (6 months ago) when I attempted to purchase wiper blade inserts. They claimed they're not stocking them anymore, and require purchasing the wiper blade holder as well. According to realoem, there's still a part number for the insert rubber.

I've been using PIAA silicone inserts in my other car. they seem to work well....available on Amazon in different sizes.

ECSTuning also has them for about $13. Their shipping was only $7.88 to me in NY.

More than likely it was the old part number which was discontinued. I had (kinda) the same problem, I used an old part number that was all over the forums and tischer just removed it from my order. For some reason the old part number didn't forward to the new one, leading people to think they were discontinued.

You should check your dealer as well. On small cheap items they are sometimes competitive in price.

Use OEM blades and if you clean them on regular basis like when you gas up they last much longer. Wipe the rubber part of blade get the dirt and crud off they last longer.

I also have a spoiler on one blade but not the other. I assumed it came that way.

Anyone tried e89 wipers on e85? They are the same sizes so they might fit?
