Not to harp on about the bolts, but I think they have close to a 100% failure rate by 50k miles.
And while you're in there, the exhaust hub tabs have nearly as high a failure rate.
So high that the M3 guys have entertained the idea of a class action suit.
The exhaust hub has to come off to inspect/replace the bolts, so the labor is already there, so I would strongly suggest a C300 Exhaust Hub.

Not to put you off the sale, because it's a really good deal, but you're maybe going to need to lay out another $1500-2000 to bullet-proof the Vanos.
About $1000 if you do your own work.

That's a bummer on the loan, ideally obtaining a loan on a pre-owned car is reasonable up to 3 - 4 years. You might get raked on the rate a bit.

Why does it matter if the car has a lien? I've sold several cars before my car loan was paid off. The buyer and I went to the bank I had my loan through and they paid off my loan right then and there with the buyer's cashier check, with the profits going to me. Takes like 10 min. In all cases I had the title.

Use PenFed Credit Union (Pentagon Federal CU). Used car rate is 0.99%, and they'll go WAY back - I had a loan queued up for an '01 M5. They will lend up to the NADA value of the car.

We'll have to go through escrow if I don't fly out to Cali. Even if we did the sale in person, the title has to be sent through the mail and it takes a day. His loan is through Capitol One. They don't have a branch where I can accompany him and take possession of the title. Escrow is safest for both parties.

I think the current rate is 1.99% for up to 60mths unless you buy through the buying service(which wouldn't apply for this used car). I love Penfed BTW - great bank.

Try a local credit union instead of a commercial bank.

That was my credit union. I've been there since high school.

My SI does not have M sport seats but it does have the premium package. Why don't you upgrade yours?

I may have to back out of this one. I have the smell of sewage pumping through my house. I have an HVAC guy, plumber, and someone to redo my crawl space coming over in the AM. It could get expensive.

Plus I already have my M bumper and all the extra hardware to get it installed. I'll probably end up selling this stuff at a loss if I buy that car.

So, if you want to jump on it, I won't take it against you. But if it's still there after I get my sewage and crawl space problems all straightened out, I'll probably get the car.

I'll get back to you after these guys check out my house's crawl space and figure out why the smell of sewage is being pumped into my house. After I get that estimate, I'll have to get an estimate from the shop on how much all the preventative maintenance is going to cost me then I have to re-apply for a car loan at penfed. I checked out the website and it is pretty easy to get an account there.
