Lock doors without turning on alarm?

My alarm is a bit over sensitive and I am going away for 2 weeks, so just wanna lock the car without turning on the alarm.
Is this possible?
I've used the key to lock the doors, but the light in the rearview mirror still starts up..

Any ideas?

There's a way to lock the doors while disabling the tilt sensor. I have to look it up every time I get on the ferry to Seattle.

But what do you mean too sensitive? There are only a few ways to trigger the alarm and most of them require physical contact. Only the interior motion sensor doesn't and maybe tilt sensor (but the car needs to be moving, IE: 'I'm on a boat')

Pretty old question but I had to figure this out recently.

Here is how you do it:

Sit in passenger seat with doors closed, then lock the doors with the center lock button near the shifter.
Next you exit the car via the passenger door.
Before closing the passenger door you manually press down on the black button on the passenger door.
Close passenger door.

Now the car is closed and locked without engaging the alarm. This can only be done from the passenger side as described.

I used Progman to disable the tilt sensor.
I live on a hillside, and we have earthquakes every few months.

man, thats a very old post, i solved this by removing the bonnet alarm sensor as that was what was causing my issues. has been perfect ever since.

That also works on the 3-series, and I am guessing it is pretty standard across all models.

Pokeybritches you are misunderstanding the difference.

I agree that you can use the remote or key to turn off the motion sensor and tilt sensors. In these cases which you have referenced the alarm is still activated (albiet in a less sensitive setting).

The OP asked how to lock the car without turning on the alarm. My response is answering his question of locking the car without turning on the alarm at all.

I had to do this once when my battery was acting up and I didn't want the alarm to use any juice.

My alarm just started going off at will.
Tilt sensor is disabled. I don't know what its trip is. Maybe the hood switch.

Open the passenger door, reach over and push down the driver's side button.
Push down the passenger side button and close.
But you have to open it with the key. The booper won't unlock it.

The hood sensor is a very common failure point. I've had to replace the sensor twice on my E46, as had my friend. They go bad after about half a dozen year or so. I'm expecting my hood sensor to go "bad" anytime soon on the MZ4 Coupe.

If you find that your alarm goes off for no reason, the hood sensor is the first place I'd look.

If your car beeps when locking and unlocking, you have the alarm. If you only get the hazard light flash and the sound of the actuators, no alarm. It was a factory option but many people (like myself) installed the retrofit kit after the fact.

I just replaced mine. Before that it would go off randomly all the time.

Before replacing your hood switch, try adding a sticker padding on the hood itself to help push the switch further down. I tried that solution on my on my 11 year old X5 (coming up on 12), which used to go off randomly often. It works 99% of the time as it only goes off once every blue moon now. I use the same method on the Z and never have an issue with the alarm (knock on wood).
