FWIW, and as someone who went through several cars, including an E92 M3 and a Cayman, I'd sell the M3 and then sit back a few months and just drive drive/enjoy the X5.

From your comments the M3 seems to be the focus of anger with yourself over what you feel was a bad decision. Fair enough, I know that feeling pretty well, and I've been there myself.

If I had to do it over, and could go back and offer myself advice, I'd have sold one car and sat things out awhile, before jumping into something else--that was I could have come back to it with a clearer head. The strong emotional reaction around the M3, and the decision to buy it, sell the Z4M, isn't the best place from which to be making further decisions.

Bottom line, it's hard to think clearly, or even know what you want, when there's that much going on in your head and when strong emotions are involved. At least that was the story in my case.

I feel for you on this. Its every guy's nightmare that he would buy a dream car and end up disliking it. But take heart; the M3 is an awesome car in the view of most everyone out there. If you decide to sell it, you should not suffer excessive financial punishment.

In reading Finnegan's post, perhaps you should just drive the M3 for a while before jumping into another vehicle. I'd hate for you to replace the M3 and not like the new car.

By the way, you said that at 6'2, you found your Z4MC cramped. I am 6'1 and my car, while an SI, has M Sport seats so its interior should have identical proportions. I've put the seat all the way back and then moved it ahead just a smidge so I don't get the seat rubbing on the back. I've got plenty of leg room.

Good luck!

If you go with the Gallardo ( Edit: 2007 or older, I think they improved 2008+), you'll end up replacing the clutch every 10-15k miles or sooner depending on Egear or 6MT and driving habits, along with the throw out bearing about every other clutch
Dont tempt me. lol jk.

Since we paid cash I will lose $2-$4k at this point. I have lost that money in swapping cars over the year and it became quite frequent. The new GF won't let me lose that kind of money but at the same time she doesn't like the look of the M3. So I am going to sit back another few months at this point and see what happens. I am going to take the advice of some of you guys. Her feeding the fire of it looking cheap compared to my Z4 is why I was disappointed. My ex-wife likes the M3. Go figure..Fricken women.

So in the meantime I will drive the M3. Infact I took it out today after not driving it for a couple weeks. It was nice. It had power and drove good. I am going to focus on my other things at this point.

Great advice. Thank you.

My gf is feeding the fire about the looks of the M3. It does have influence on me since I see her all the time. lol

I am going to take your advice and just chill and focus on other things at this point. If she bitches about it, so be it.

BTW I just saw a white M3 that looks so nice. Bet you $10 bucks my gf would say it looks like poo. lol Whatever..

Have her sit down and watch the Conti Sports Car Challenge. Every time I watch it, I always have a pang of regret that I didn't go with an M3. Those cars show why the M3 is such a great car. There's a reason why there's so many of them out there.

After reading this thread, I am having second thoughts on possibly selling/trading my 07 Z4MC. I used to be a VW Corrado owner then I lusted after the Z3MC since I couldn't afford one then, I bought a Ducati and went to graduate school - just so I could buy a nicer car, priorities you know. I was able to afford a nice ride and low and behold I got a new Z4MC . 70K later my Z4MC is running magnificently, and I still stare at it, like all the time, as does everyone else.

My mind is in an internal fight to either keep it, or sell it while it still has extended maintenance plan, etc. This is because my best friend recently bought an '11 M3 Comp, and I have been able to drive it alot, and I love that motor. I even bought Rpi's to get some better sound out of my M, but that didn't work out as I am selling the rpi's since my dog wasn't having it...

Why cant they just make an E89 M coupe, I mean come on u bastards just do it. I heard that they may do it if there are surplus M3 motors leftover after the M3 production run is over...I really hope they miss a warehouse full of them so they will be forced to make an E89 M Coupe....

Decisions, Decisions, I completely feel your dilemma man....

If the Z4M isn't spacious enough for you taller guys, just take out the wall behind the seats, that should help out a bit, add a cage while you're at it!

Sorry for the essay people...here are some pics to compensate...

What can I say Its gotta be the Shoes!

Where did you hear they might make an E89 M coupe? That is pretty much my attainable dream car (well truth is an e86 m coupe with the M3 v8 is my dream car, but the e89 would be a nice consolation). If they make an e89 coupe (or even e89 M roady with folding hardtop) with the V8 I will buy it.

I will dig up the source I just can't seem to find it, but this is generally what happened previous generation and why we have the e85/e86 M's, there was a surplus of S54 engines, and they decided to stuff it in the Z4...thank god they did.

We could all have a sit-in on BMW NA's lawn and demand that they make the car...that would be a sight to see.

The new z4's chassis is heavier and a lot less nimble. I wouldn't buy an M version of it

This.

Now if they came out with an M version of the suspension, S65, and a proper coupe hardtop (or proper soft-top) to cut what, IIRC, is 300 lbs of retractable hardtop out of the picture I might be game. I don't know how much the E89 shares with the 3 and 1 series, but the current 1M uses the E9x M3 suspension and diff, and it's no slouch. That plus a nice V8?

But since they have the N54 (or is it the N55) already in that car, IDK. The 1M was pretty easy to accomplish in some ways. Tweak the N54 a bit, use M3 suspension and diff, and a few interior pieces, exhaust. The E89 doesn't currently come in anything but the hardtop vert version, and building a coupe or softtop isn't an economically viable for a small run car. No way I'd buy a hardtop version, V8 notwithstanding.

really!!? I sold my 6 month old x5 bc the fit and finish, or lack thereof. You'd expect more from a 70k car. seriously, my wifes african made 09 328i is head and shoulders above the x5...women I didn't notice it until I was detailing my in laws gl550 and saw the quality of paint, fitment, and quality of materials. My x5 looked cheap in comparison...

I'd LOOOVE to get an Ariel Atom and drive it 3-4 days a week, but I'm not buying a car that fast to drive on the streets with no ABS brakes. Too many unpredictable situations where you don't have the reaction time to produce the perfect threshold brake stop, and locking up tires flat spots them. One of the major reasons I didn't like driving my Gen 2 Viper GTS quickly on the street

Yup and sometimes she can be high maintenance. She hates the 08-12 3 series cars. She says they are cheap and ride like shit. But again thats how she is. All women are different and have different tastes. She likes the newer X5 because its simple and easy to use. No need for the M3. My ex-wife likes the 02-05 NSX but to me the car looks great but rides and is old technology. The new NSX may be something I may look at in a year or so.

After just a few days of ownership of my E90 M3 I can say that I def do not feel the way Endlessz4m does! I couldnt be happier with the trade and I know I made the right decision.
