1/2 quart more oil????

I was wondering about this. When I tracked my E30 M3 for the 6 years I had it, I always overfilled the engine oil by about 1/3-1/2 quart of oil. In the S14 engine this prevented oil starvation on hard cornering and braking. This was a commone practice with everyone. Does the S54 need to be treated the same way?

I believe the S54 comes with a "semi-dry" sump design, where the wet sump in complimented by a secondary oil pump, or the dry-sump to prevent the oil starvation problems common with 100% wet sump designs of the not so distant past.

I don't think overfilling would be helpful on this engine.

Good question, I'll jump in and ask the same for the N52?
I know you don't want to much of an overfill which will create other problems. Is there a "sweet spot" for overfill with our cars or does it really matter?

Good question. I was told if I was going to start to track the car regularly, that I should upgrade the oil pump. Something similar to the e30m3 track car?

This. Same thing I've found out about our engine as well.

On wet sump engines, people usually put close to a quart over (mostly to avoid lifter tick).

With maintaining accurate oil levels (3/4 on the dipstick range). I never got lifter tick on any autocross day or track day.
