Headers, Stock Secondary Cats & Drive Clean

Hi All,

Just wanted to post some info for those wondering if your car will pass Drive Clean or not when you get headers and modify the secondary cats to accept the O2s.

The answer is, yes you will. I passed 2 weeks ago, no issues.

I do have EPIC software but I had it installed prior to headers and even after retunes never had them turn down or turn off the secondary O2 readings.

I've run well over 6K km without a light and hopefully will continue to do so

For anyone concerned about drive clean as I was, seems to be no issue.

Thanks for the info Mirko. I was part of the DFK fiasco. I still haven't installed the secondary cats, but I am already running software from AA.

Now that spring is approaching I've been considering what to do.

I'm a bit fed up of the whole modding thing, but if this works out like yours did, I'll keep the car. If not I'll return it back to stock and flog it for a p-car.

I had a readiness fail in November; Cleared the codes before the test. Stupid move. I need to drive some cycles in a few weeks and go back for the test. We'll check the readiness before the test.

I must just be unlucky.

I have the ESS tune, euro headers, ss power loop exhaust and X pipe with relocated o2 sensors.

I failed 2 years ago and again this week.

I've restore US NA OEM ESS tune and will try again.

Where did you guys go for your testing?

In stock form I went to EA in Vaughan under the new testing. This last one I went to CT locally. It must be the tune shutting off your CEL. I would go to EA myself if in your shoes. They deal with our situations regularly.

It should really work so long as you relocate the O2 sensors. Just make sure that the AA software doesn't turn off the readiness for your secondaries, otherwise you won't pass. Wishing you all the best!!

Mine was done before self flash was available.
It's the base NA, non header tune.

I need to update it.

My M is dead stock- as in unmolested!! Hope i dont get left too far behind! Passed e test when i bought it end of last summer with no issues of course.

Just an update.

Another 2 years have gone by and I did the drive clean yesterday, passed with everything set as ready. No modifications or changes have been done to the car with respect to emissions.

Do you mean location of where I got the emissions test done? It's just a quick oil change place called Pennzoil 10 Minute Oil Change Center.

I am unfortunately still not passing. Have had expired sticker since May.
EPIC sent multiple tune revisions, I relocated my O2s behind secondary cats as others have done and the car still never becomes ready for Oxygen sensor or Catalyst monitoring. It's been driven over 2000km in total trying different things, reading multiple posts on achieving readiness, from letting the car sit 8+ hours, idling on startup and idling before shutting off to keeping it under 3000RPM for entire trips to beating on it, maintaining speeds of ~50, maintaining speeds of ~100 with/without throttle input changes, I can keep going. In short, it never becomes ready and it never has a single fault.

I'm almost to the point where I am willing to take the temp pass and have another 2 years to figure this out.

That's crazy why it isn't working for you. Maybe go back to stock tune and check if your 02 sensors are actually bad, might need to change them. Are the correct 02 sensor connected to the correct bank? Ian, Dave and I all pass with no issues so it's weird.
