Best Tires for 17x9?
Considering a square 17x9 setup for the track. 255/40 maintains the stock ride height of 25" but I wonder if that's too much sidewall? Am I better off going 245/40 even though that's shorter than stock height?

The sidewall all depends on what tire you go with. Go with a tire that has a very soft sidewall you might run into problems with roll over. |

try to keep it close to stock height as much as possible. if its shorter, your odometer will show higher speed than you are actually traveling. our odometer is naturally slower than the actual speed according to laser and gps tracking that i have used to measure the vehicle speed to compare.
255 is also the recommended tire size for 9" wheels. There is no point in getting a square setup and not running the same tire size. it defeat the purpose |

I've ran 275 on 8.5" wheels before and it was fine. I've known some that ran 225 on 9.5" wheels too. It's just not a recommended size for the wheels. 245 is recommend for 8.5" wheels. The idea is not trying to stretch the tires if you don't have to. If you track, you want the proper size.
