Engine shutting down when rev

My 04 z4 2.5 roadster is shutting down, and when it happens all the dashboard lights turn on, when im in a stop sign, and i suddenly hit the gas pedal slightly hard. I have to put it in parking, and turn the ignition on again.

Sometimes it does not shutdown, but when i hit the gas pedal slightly hard, the car does not rev, and then immediately works normally as it keeps running and going at a higher speed, then the music goes louder, as if the car automatically turns up the volume of the speakers.

battery is almost new.

any ideas?

thank in advance! my best regards!

Battery would be my first guess, but you have that covered, unless it's a voltage regulator, bad alternator, or some other part of the battery/charging system. That could cause what you're seeing.

Outside of that, no clue. If you have access to a BMW diagnostic code reader that's probably going to set you on the right path. These cars have a lot of sensors/electronics, and trying to diagnose from the symptoms w/o codes is really difficult.

I have had that happen to me twice (shutting off)but it hasn't happened in a while. Always within a mile from start.

Sorry that I can't help. Maybe, have the software updated.

If the engine stalls, for whatever reason, lots of lights on the dash will come on.
Pretty much the same ones that come on when you turn the key to ON, but don't start the car.
I don't think it's really any clue.

The question is why does it stall when you give it gas from a stop.
And I take it this is an automatic?
There's just way too many reasons for it to stall.
Take it somewhere and get it scanned, preferably with DIS.
At least maybe that will narrow it down to fuel delivery or ignition, etc.

Or just wait until it gets worse. Sometimes that's all you can do with a problem that's hard to reproduce.

thank you all for your quick reply!

i got the bmw diagnostic, this were the errors.. spanish-english:

translation:
code 000033 IHKA: Bus K Exterior Temperature
code 0000CE KOMBI: Temperature exterior sensor
code S 0046 Can not establish connection with cellphone
code 000004 SZM: Temperature sensor of heating left seat, line interrumption
code 00986D SBSL: Ignition circuit interruption, driver left side airbag
code 0098F8: SBSR: Ignition circuit interruption "borne" of battery security

because my car had a previously crash and no driver side door airbag, my mechanic friend told me that there is a sensor connected between the battery and the car circuit, and when there is a crash, that sensor automatically brakes, protecting the battery and the car circuit. but in my case, they didnt replace that sensor, they just repair it, so his guess is that the sensor is causing the problem, and i should replace it.

what do you guys think?

by the way, its an automatic..

it is not the alternator , because i had it checked in battery master, and it has maximum power.

it could be the voltage regulator, is that the "sensor" connected between the battery and the car circuit?

I think there's a circuit breaker that disconnects the battery if an air bag goes off, to prevent an electrical fire.
Not sure where it is on the Z4. It's a circuit board on top of the battery in my friend's 330i.
I would guess that if it failed, you would have no power at all.
I don't think that's the problem.

yes, that is what i think. either the battery works, or it does not. that sensor is working, if it has not, the car would not even start.

any other guess? because there is no other error in the bmw diagnose

There's too many possibilities.
If I had to place a bet, I'd go with fuel delivery.
Sounds like it's leaning out. When you stab the gas, it get's lots of air, but not enough fuel.
Don't know why. Try searching for key words like "hesitates" or "stalls".

I'm not familiar enough with the throttle set-up on the 2.5 to come up with a theory.

you got me thinking when you said "leaning out".. i think it could be the fuel pump. my car had died twice when i was in an inclination position (up or down).

update:

1. i check the DISA valve and it was in perfect shape.

2. then i clean the MAF module with carburetor cleaner, and it has not happen me again.. i hope it keeps that way.

the only strange thing is that i can smell acid smells from the exhaust, maybe i need to use some fuel injectors cleaner...

thank you all!
