sport mode?
Hi all, I have a 3.0 si coupe with automatic transmission for six months.
I didnt push the sport button yet because I dont know how to use it. I looked at its manual but there is no information enough about it. Is there anybody to explain me about it simply? regards |

A search for "sport mode" will answer your question that has been covered many times. New info we can help with.
Btw, most don't use it. |

///M guys don't use sport mode. You have a 3.0si so it is different. I had a 3.0 before and use the sport mode every time I start the car. It tighten the electric steering and have different shift point for auto tranny. Accelerator is remap for better response. I believe that's all it do.

I use sport mode 100% of the time.
My previous ride of 22 years had a "binary throttle", so it's what I'm used to. But then, I'm just driving to work and back. As fullerra states below, it's probably too nonlinear for precision driving.

Initially I used it to help with rev matching for heel/toe downshifts on the track, but that benefit was FAR outweighed by the inability to modulate the yaw angle mid-corner

fullerra's comments, that don't translate easily, refer to skilled driving on the track.
The bottom line is that sport mode is a matter of preference. Whatever suits your use and driving style. As for specifically what it does on a non ///M, I'm not sure. Hopefully you found that in another thread. Probably: 1) More sensitive throttle. Not more power, just more throttle with less pedal. 2) Less input from electric power steering assist, to give you better road feel. With an automatic, maybe: 3) Shift points moved to higher revs. But I don't know for sure on that one.

Sorry abt that...
If you are not driving on the track, I wouldn't worry about sport vs. non-sport mode. In practice, it may make the commute a bit more fun (sport mode on), as it may feel as if the car has better acceleration. That being said though, if it is for commuting, your gas mileage may suffer a bit. Sorry If I added more confusion. |

Big difference. In your car I'd use it 100% of the time. In my M Coupe it makes the car undriveable in normal city conditions.

The Sport Button on the E85/E86 Z4 does three things.
The effects are pure personal preference. I don't use it much, I press the DSC button more often to turn the traction control down a bit (DTC)
