Talking Sounds pretty good all things considered

Started up fine - 30 seconds after I turned the key for the first time took this video. Let it warm up a bit - slowly revved it up to about 6500 and eased off and it just went up and down smoothly. In fact first time started it went right to about 1400 RPM and after a couple minutes went back to 900-950.

It used to turn over - start up go to 1500 and then drop and almost stall and then catch and go back up - didn't do that either

Waiting on the one piece power steering hose and if better than the one with 3 pieces and 4 clamps will take a picture.

Note that some pics are not of what you are looking at and are also not matched with the directions - take your time - All in all - not bad - better than exhaust work !!

Hans at ESS was a great help and again -= the installer should have a couple hours under a hood or he would be toast.

Placed a piece of metal over the K&N air filter to keep some of the water off it that may come in around the hood - at least it won't run directly on to the top from just inside the engine bonnet and from around the radiator housing - it still gets all the air from the front and up through the air vent for the brake cooling.

I did surround it with self stick door guard so it doesn't abrade anything and painted it black for all those who worry about the colour

Ess have changed the Air filter it seems, mine hardly fits in that space.... wondering if the smaller would would mean i get at it from the grill???

ITs 3.5" and is tight - in the course of routing the air intake hose through the radiator housing I decided to cut the stay between the original intake hole and the rad. It may look a little rough - see further up in the posts but at least I can pull the entire intake BACK through including the filter when I want to clean and oil it.

ALthough say its easy to do - taking the whole damn bumper off the change an air filter is like the old Jags where you had to drop the motor to change the spark plugs!@! Regular maintenance should not be a pain in the ass.

OP keep an eye on the ESS hose that connects the air filter to the S/C intake... this is By far my mosted hated part supplied in the kit.... after a while you'll start to see it cracking and looking pretty crap, its strong but keep an eye on it, where it rests it will rub through eventually, its actually imo quite fragile for the important job it does.... i will be upgrading this to a new triple layer item in 2013... one of my metal "ribs" popped through the hose..... needless to say im not impressed with this item.

Word of warning.... keep a close on it!!!

Thanks for the complement and the tip on the hose - it is such a severe bend I don;t know why they don't form that part like they do the upper section.
When I cut out the area of the radiator shroud I covered the metal edges with plastic wire covering and tape, hopefully it won't wear too badly.

ohh man i wish i was able to get to my Air filter without taking the bumper off, after closer inspection ive decided one of my first jobs of 2013 will be a new intake house ( from filter to s/c intake) and im NOT looking forward to stripping this out... at all.

how you finding the car?? how about a review in the engine section??

Add water meth to the VT1 for serious gains.

they are lifetime units.... so you re-wash.

ive done a few K n units soooo easy.....

remove filter
spray on cleaner (i use k & n cleaner and oil)
wash with unpressurised water from the inside out
Let dry (takes ages)
run the oil down the raised part of each pleat
Let dry ( takes ages)

Job done, it will look brand new after you've done this. They need cleaning once the dirt has made the wire mesh no longer visible.

mine doesn't need doing but as i have a few jobs to do when the bumper is off im going to do mine as well, my main issue being to change out the Hose, Ess have upgraded this part now and use a much better quality item to the ones were using....

i dunno if i being dumb here but it looks like we could get to the filter if we removed the top black plastic cover over the rad, the piece with the BMM emblem on it.... whats your guys feeling on this?? it appears to only be held on by plastic rivets.

I think if you take that cover off you still won't be able to get the filter off the tubing and off to clean. As I said I cut out another piece of the radiator shroud so I could pull the filter BACK through if I had to. I am also going to see if I can't replace the flex 3.5 " hosing with 2 - 45 degree silicone fittings that are also 3.5" and can be turned in different directions to make it easier to take it apart AND replace from inside the engine compartment.

Power steering hose alternate

I replaced the power steering hose that came with the install kit as the one that shows the part number in the pics is one piece - has a heat/abrasion shield and fits the same as the one you send out with 3 pieces and requires 4 clamps. THe cost retail to me was around $50.00 from Pelican Parts.

Topped off power steering fluid and as the snow melted off the roads and no salt down took the M out for a "minor" run. Very slowly for 3 miles - nothing fell off or caught on fire so - hit er a bit and can spin the tires in 1st and 2nd anytime you want with the road a little damp so = certainly more power - seat of the pants - great - unfortunately will have to wait for any more running. We are getting 6 inches of snow tonight.

how do you like that part, much neater and no-longer need to worry about spills, then again it is such a low pressure circuit i dont think it will leak but in the interest of doing it properly ;-) hahahaha...... how did you find the install of it?? maybe you could outline the steps you did to swap these piece out for the other Vt owners, me and you are the only one with this part and mine was done by the shop so cant comment on the process..... I saw a CSL having some work done and spotted the longer hose and Guessed it would work, it turned out to so perfect for the job ESS should supply that hose imo!!

having just come in from taking off the top rad cover, im pretty certain i can to the hose at least, im not to fussed about removing the filter as yet as on further inspection its very very clean, but in term of the hose, take the bumper off isnt going to make it any easer for me to get it through that small opening, its going to mean some grazed knucles but im going to do this from the top, however if i need to remove the filter, your right, its impossible without removing the bumper. Feeding a new hose in however looks entirely possible (LOL, i say that now!!!, lol, )

while im in their im going to make a filter "support" that bolts to the cross brace behind the grill, theirs alread a nice spare hole drilled, so im going to use or make a cruved bracket to hold the filter in the location i want, not happy with it loose in the spot...

Good to know you can at least check the air filter through the top - they don't tend to get dirty quickly as long as they are not saturated with oil.

As I said before I cut a strut out of the radiator surround big enough to pull the damn thing back into the engine compartment - even with the hole as big as I made it - not easy,

The power steering hose is just swap. When you install the supercharger you relocate the power steering reservoir as you know so you take the hose off and make sure there is a bucket - fairly wide bucket under the pump as the fluid that is in the hose and the reservoir all runs out - makes a mess of your floor and it is actually Automatic Transmission Fluid and VERY slippery. I took the bottom hose off first and tried to get it into a bucket or funnel - if you take the top one off you get all the fluid in the reservoir draining out first and then when you take the bottom off all the fluid in the hose drains off. IN all likelihood as you said the ESS hose works fine but it seemed weird to have 3 parts to a hide 2 feet long.

Same as the flex hose for the air filter - why not make it rigid to fit where it is supposed to go - in any even I have the silicone 3.5" 45 degree bends coming next week and will see what I can do - could always customize the whole thing

great info as always, im more than interested, so exciting this part was imo, and i changed ALOT of the ess stuff as i just wasnt happy, i moved things, tweaked, changed parts, moved again to get it all perfect.....

now.... after getting access to the top of the filter i can see the filter is just "resting" in position, with the type of driving i do, its got to be moving round quite abit, well, i had my hommie fab me a bracket that mounts to the underside of the space it occupies in a free whole, this has a hole already made so i can loop a large Cable tie around the tapered end, this A) suspends it in the space so its touching absolutely nothing, B) keeps the filter from getting damaged by large jolts, i can see some of the wire mesh on mine looks a lil beat up :-) i can say after a few years its hardly looking dirty at all.... wont need to service it for a while i can see :-)

not at all looking forward to doing the rear hose but its bothering me that much i have to do something about it, i can see i will have no skin left on my hands.....

I LOVE that make your own intake kit, if i had an opening like your, id be all over that, that would be so cool to put together...

just finished my billet alloy bracket to hold the filter up, this way its not rubbing on anything at all, my alloy bracket has an eyelet on it, that bolts to one of the existing bolt wholes that are not unused, i used one of my supercharger Hex bolts, then from the eyelet i can run a large zip tie, this perfectly suspends the filter in mid air........ its a shame the bracket is hidden as its really lovely, lol...

you'll notice where the filter sits the Rad as a sharp diagonal pieces, this will wear through the mesh.... as its done it to mine, albeit not a major issue, but something to look at :-)

ive ordered a new silicone Flexi hose, except its a triple layer silicone item, im looking forward to putting this piece on ( NOT) will be next saturday when the new piece arrives.

Flex 3 layer silicone - Where did you find that creature - I am glad you warned me about the hose wearing on the metal - all you want is to suck something into the supercharger that shouldn't be there - like a piece of the wire inside the hose - the unit itself retails for over $2300 and I am sure would be an expensive fix. Can you take a picture when you are finished of the new hose ? Too bad they couldn't have expanded the moulded intake to allow and in-line or flow thru flat filter like the one the stock unit uses - All it would need is a thin box with inlet and outlet fitted into the stock intake ?

got it from a specialist motorsport factor over here..... the price is painful tho!!!

100 bucks a metre!!!!!!!! but hopefully.... wont need to do this again, also this hose has the wire between the different layers of silicone.. its the real deal, can withstand 300 deg C and also even better its a special matt silver than reflects heat, completely overkill but like you said, when its feeding a 2k+ blower...... can be too careful..... After ive done all this im going to remove the s/c and take it to be powder coated crackle black!!

also can i give you another tip, and another lesson i learned the hard way.... on your last pic you can see the black PS tank, see that one leg on the bracket??? remove the bracket and chop this off with an angle grinder or the like, this will allow you a) to be able to get to the s/C dipstick really easy without having to bend the fuck out of the PS tank lines, and more importantly it allows more adjust BACK once fastened, it WILL repeat WILL rub on the underside of the hood during really aggressive drivin with the way your forced to place it with that "leg" in place.... cut it off and you can twist the tank towards the oil filter housing and it will clear the hood better, it also looks nicer :-)

As you have it now on full bore starts it touches the hood and rubs off of the paint which is imo not acceptable....

like i say, over the years ive pretty much perfected all the "tweaks" that need doing.

no probs, i will take some detail pics of the new filter mount and hose once I've got it all in place :-) hoping to have this wrapped up by next weekend, the cars hibernation ends soooooon!!

please consider a Catch can, these cars have serious blow by when you Fi them.....

Drive around for a few k then take off your s/c inlet and tell me what you see..... be warned.... its not pretty!!!!!
