Trying to Keep it Cool

So I was thinking recently as it's getting hotter as the summer moves in. Has anyone every taken a sunshade and put it between the convertible top and the headliner? Could this aid in keeping it cooler?

I've purchased a car cover and it does nothing at keeping the heat out. It's the covercraft evolution cover. Got it off a fellow owner for cheap. But yea its still stifling hot in the car regardless.

Garage List
Does your AC not keep up? In my little cabin I can hang meat in just a few minutes once that AC gets going!

Here on the extreme east coast of Canada, I have been finding the opposite problem. It was a bone chilling -1C here the other night and as recently as Monday, the low outdoor temperature alarm (black ice warning at +3C) was beeping as I drove home after work in my X5.

But amazingly, the weather has finally changed (about time, methinks). I went home for lunch, pulled off the cover, disconnected the battery tender, corrected the tire pressure and drove the Z4 back to work. Top down. YEESSSS!!!

I've been thinking about one of those solar powered window fans, but not sure it will help.
My problem is the black dash and leather soaks up the heat, stores it, and radiates it for about an hour after I have the top down cruising home after work.
80° outside and 95° in the car cruising with the top down.

Roadster Solutions has these available:

and there is also one by Sunbrella:

You are working against two things here. (1) Solar gain, the main culprit and (2) the ambient air temperature. I would have thought that the covers above, although a bit fugly and taking up space in the trunk when not in use, would address solar gain. But the OP is finding they don't help much. Alternatively, you could also consider some side window tinting, although I expect that wouldn't be very helpful as most of the solar gain is via the windshield.

With respect to ambient air temperature, if its 85F outside, the best you can do with a window fan is cool the car to 85F, the same as outside.

Perhaps try a solar powered window fan or two and the common windshield shade.

Or, you can move to my town. Trust me - NOBODY ever complains that its too warm here. Those who have, have been thrown off a cliff, never to be heard of again.
