Carbon Fiber (CF) Z4 Coupe roofs-Feeler participants

Hello Z4 coupe fans.

This is simply a thread to help me establish the order line for the upcoming CF roofs I'll be building soon.

For those unaware......I've just finished the top-skin Resin Infusion mold and I'm working on the substructure mold currently. ( As well as a high heat male mold for the clear moon-roof-kit).

In the meantime.....who is solid on getting in line ? These will be built one at a time in this process >>

1)-Vacuum Assist Resin Transfer Carbon Fiber.-(no air voids)
..........Platinum Silicon custom Vacuum bag.
----2x2 Twill-----or CF Plain weave or Texalium Silver 2x2 Twill....2x2 Twill w/V-weave......or 2x2 Twill Hybrid /Kevlar colors (example=red,blue,white,green),.....Added fee applies for the last 3 custom orders.

2)-Post cured at 125*-( Insures final cure and strength).(No warp/skew)

3)-Substructure also made from CF.

4)- Direct full roof replacement with directions and Stainless hardware kit.

5)- Standard finish will be UV stabilized automotive urethane clear- Wet-sanded and polished).

6)- Boxed for shipping with foam corners and insured.

7)- Cost=first 10 units will be $1,450.00 + Shipping.

I'll convert this to a group buy thread after it takes shape and I have pictures of mine mounted etc.

So lets get this party started, who wants in ??

Good stuff man, love to see all this coming through. Curious what the hybrid with the white looks like.. Any pics of something similar?

Also, are these roofs smooth tops like the other cf ones or are the M rooflines molded in like oem?

Mine still have the Z4 coupe roof lines-(OEM). Take a look at the mold pix. You can still see them there.

The White CF/Kevlar hybrid cloth looks like >>

All of the CF/Kevlar hybrid colors share blk. in the opposite tow. So Red is red/blk.....blue/blk. etc.

The 2x2 Twill describes the weave pattern and number of tow crisscrosses.

This was probably answered in the other long thread (apologies if that is the case): what kind of weight savings can be expected?

Now, that's now accounting for the coolness factor which looks like it's been hit right out of the park!

OK maybe I'm missing it, but is this a straight CF replacement
or
Is this the removable CF top?

Also;
Is the CF laid up from one piece of cloth?
Some of the earlier CF tops (TC Kline) were multi pieced together.

Plain weave was used previously for OEM BMW parts and is most common....but not ALWAYS the money shot,so to speak.

However...if you already have Plain Weave CF on your car...it usually looks best to continue with that theme or weave.

It's for the coupe, so I'm assuming it's on glued/ screwed on just like the regular coupe roof.

I'll be making the CF roof component first. Straight replacement ,as you put it. The removable kit will follow separately. If one wishes to NOT glue their roof back on in wishing to utilize the removal kit later...I have a seal in development for this.

These will have ZERO seams/parting lines etc. ONE PIECE cloth installations.NO cloth interruptions in other words.

Generally, Resin Infused CF parts weigh in about 2/3rds the weight of their metal counterparts. An aluminum part about 1/2....but you gain MUCH more strength and dent avoidance with CF.

The OEM roofs are bolted on at 4 points with additional urethane sealant all the way around.

I'm developing a Platinum soft silicone seal to replace the messy issue with the sealants.

This way...if someone buys my products....they can easily remove the tops to re-sell or take off at anytime without the previous hassles.

Just the four bolts essentially.

I weighed the metal roof last night. But have not placed it to memory. I'll post the comparo up once I have assembled the two halves and can photograph the parts while sitting on the scale.

How's that ?

Sweetness!! Since there are four bolts at each corner applying pressure why not just recommend a self adhesive weather seal that you can buy a roll of at The Home Depot?
