Getting tired of my Moupe

What should I do? I'm thinking of going Pcar 930, 993 or 997 turbo. Anyone? Talk me out of this!

Tired how?

Not enough power? Can be "cured" with a turbo or ESS S/C.
Handling? TC Kline or other coilover kit, camber plates, possibly stiffer sways.

To put it another way, what's the car lacking you seek to find in another car? If it's just the need for something new, I get that.

As for those P cars...

I think they fixed the RMC (rear main seal) issues with the 997, but I'd research it a bit. 997 variable vane turbo is just a monster, add the DCT to it and it's just in another world. Of course, so it the price!

The 930 is pretty similar to the Moupe in terms of speed, has that lift oversteer thing going. Might be a maintenance trap--no idea--but it's obviously an older car and older cars always bring special issues to the table.

The later 993 models were pretty beastly (and AWD) if I remember--far faster than the Moupe at least toward the end of the 993 run. The 993 96-98 were certainly damn fast and probably a lot of fun. No idea of what maintenance is like or if you can find one that's lowish mileage.

If the above recommendations fail, I'll start the bidding at $1.

I guess I want more torque out of the Moupe, and power too. I think i have almost all the bolt-ons other than the SC kit and sway bars for my moupe. I went F/I with my m3, and it was damn fun. I'm only considering in getting turbo P-cars, thus the most appealing models are in this order: 993>930>997. I know price should be a factor too, but I'm only looking to keep for a few months, before I move back to Brazil for good. Maybe any other fun factor cars? Suggestions?

If you are only looking to keep for a few months then whats the point of selling your car to buy another to just sell it in a few months... Or would you take that car to Brazil with you?

I'd say SC the car and throw on the sway bars. What about a Lotus? The SC one.

Either or, I'll have to sell it. I want to drive something different. I cannot import used cars to brazil unless it's over 30 years of age.

Since you're looking at P-cars, why don't you look at a 996 GT3?

Full Disclosure: A GT3 is the only Porsche I would ever actually spend money on.

Another question: track or street?

Track GT3 or that S/C Lotus. If price isn't an object a 430 Scuderia might be "fun" too.

Turbo P car could be fun on the street, but GT3>Turbo IMO on the track.

Of-the-wall idea: fully built Evo with 500+ HP, full suspension, the works.

a 430 MIGHT be fun?

Under what circumstance would a 430 Scuderia not be fun?

RMS was fixed with the 3.6 in the 996 IIRC...even then it seems to be somewhat blown out of proportion on the internet like everything gets...

I've been looking through the classifieds from 6speedonline and they have quite a few attractive P-cars for sale. Mainly 997. I saw a C6 with a built engine and a blower pushing just about 700whp @ 50k usd.

Then, there's vividracing's 997TT.

The only problem is reselling the vivid's 997TT afterwards.

Buy Vivid's 997TT. I am local and would be more than happy to drive it out to you

I've owned Porsches in the past, and quite honestly the track bug has hit me so hard that the only one I would knowingly replace my car with is a 997.2 GT3RS / 996 GT3 or 997 GT2RS. The turbos are more fun on the street, but offer a completely different driving dynamics. For me there was also a different mindset on track when thinking about throwing a 100K car into the corner vs my Z4M.

Quite honestly as I've made my Z4M more track friendly, I find I like it more and more each day. When I don't I schedule a track day, bolts on the stickies, and play with the Porsche on track.

The real problem is the IMS in the m96 engines (99 to 2009) which does not effect the turbo engines.

My vote would be for a 993 but what are you going to do if you can't sell it by the time you leave?

I'm starting to get tired of the impracticality of mine. Also, I don't feel I'll be able to afford the maintenance on mine when the warranty goes out in about 8000 miles. My issue with the traction control kicking on in top of third and 4th gear is starting to piss me off as well. We'll see if we can't get it resolved the next inspection though.

Sell it. I am considering whether to get a 2005 Honda S2000, and the only question is what to do with the Z4. At least your //M retains value better than the non //M cars.

Been there done that on the S2000. I really liked the car but even a non M Z4 is a step up in my book.
