I have carbon leather...i want piano black.

What's the best way to go about doing this?
-sell/trade CL for wood and have it refinished
-buy piano black for $1200 from EBay Rover store
-find someone with piano black and buy/trade

carbon leather is plenty desirable and u'd do best with a straight swap with someone and refinish in piano black. only owners who went the bmw individual route with their z4's would have oem piano black, and those are few to begin with.

if you choose to refinish a trim to be a piano black, you need to get the alimunum trim, the wood can actually react to the solvents and such and warp and also it can crack over time the aluminum is a much better base to use and cheaper to find as it came standard so theirs a lot of it. the wood was an upcharge.

Would it be plausible to have a member have their trim refinished then I trade cash to compensate? I don't have any reputable shops nearby.

I think someone with a roadster (was it Roffle Woffle?) did this w/ wood recently. You might ask him.

wrong, there is THICK layer of laquer on the wood, while the aluminum requires a lot of prep work

trade your carbon leather for someone with wood + about $200. Have wood pained at a GOOD shop, that can guarantee no orange peel in their paint. Cost will be about $700 for the labor + paint at most

You can search for my thread. You can also find a closely matching gloss black shifter on ebay, which greatly reduces shifter height

I have aluminum trim and would like the cf leather. Willing to trade + $ if you are interested, though sounds like the wook might work better.

CF is more wanted then any other trim, so you can probably get money back in a swap with somebody.

So the shop offered me to either powdercoat or paint with good clearcoat. What should I do? What's better? It's a coupe so I don't have to worry about direct sun contact.

Powdercoat ? Absolutely not friend !!

Possibly on a well stripped of hardware aluminum set...but not on wood laminate.

Bear in mind...ALL of our dash trim is cast in aluminum...whether wood or alloy finish. They are also CNC trimmed out after assembly.

WIth proper prep work...Piano blk. will be no issue for any of the reputable shops in O.C. to handle.

If they spray it and it comes out with some dirt nibs or texture.....hollar at me and I'll wetsand it and make it look perfect like glass.

Ok so I got back from my trip and am finally ready to do this.

Can anyone help with the lower trim removal? The Italian DIY isn't very helpful even when translated.

sell your carbon fiber for 500 bucks or something and buy a new pianoblack trim, trust me its better to have the real deal. you can buy from tischer or bmwmercedesparts.com as they seem to have the lowest prices. rover active is too expensive.
