Good test results on OEM oil @4970miles

My Z4 was a lease return and one of the first things I wanted to do was test change the oil and test the old stuff to investigate the engine for problems.

I got a clean engine and at almost 5k miles the oil still looked good!

Here's a link to my second favorite car website.

That's a very cool site. I've always been skeptical about long oil change intervals, my Porsche was 20k according to the factory, it just doesn't seem right. I used to change my cars every 3000, then I started to do it at 7500, now I just follow the book with my lease cars, the others at 5000.

I just had a Blackstone done after about 9600 miles on the BMW oil. 60k on the odometer at that point.

Oil and engine looked good. No problems found. Blackstone suggested next time try 12k miles.

I'm starting to think that the 15k mile oil change isn't all that crazy.

My driving is 90% highway though, and very few short trips.

Are these oil tests looking at aluminum levels? Some of the SI owners are reporting higher than average content of aluminum.

Blackstone checks for everything.

Aluminum levels fine for me - 10ppm on the last analysis.
