How would you removed this Scuff/Scrap?
So I got my car back from the shop but noticed they left a nice "scuff mark" on the roof. (Thanks!)
It appears to be a black rubber residue possible from a tool handle? You can feel it with your nail. I tried Quick detail spray which didn't do to much to it. I'm pretty confident it's just on the surface and not through the clear coat. Any recommendations? Thanks! |

Meguiars 105 on a porter cable, followed by Megs 205 might do the trick, if the scratch isn't too deep. If you run your fingernail across it, can you feel the depth? If it is too deep, then wet sanding will be required, it can be done though, I don't see any scratch below the clear.

When you run your nail over it it feels like a texture on the clear coat (if that makes sense) Doesn't feel like a "scratch" but something on top. BUT it won't scratch off with my nail.
I actually don't own a porter (yet). Do you think a clay bar would be a good solution? Trying to use the least invasive methods first |

BMW paint is so soft, I'd be surprised if there isn't some type of scratch under whatever residue is there. If clay doesn't work, a chemical cleaner like the meguiar's paint scrub might remove the residue.

clay it and see what lies below. I used the Mag scratch remover 2.0 (tried MANY products) with a PC and orange pad when doing a lengthy detail this summer and it worked the best. Might give that a go if you have a light surface scratch after removing the mark.

Personally I'd take it back and have them remove it.

thought about that, but who knows what/how they would go about removing and "fixing." Might call and report the the dealer and doccument with pictures, then pull of the surface contaminant and see what you have.
I'm fine with having the dealer do mechanical work, but I'd rather keep care of the paint in my own hands. |

I would take it back but honestly its going to be more trouble than its worth since i would have drive 1hr+ in LA traffic and take off work. I'm certainly going to mention it to the manager though.
I'll try to clay it this weekend. Will the clay remove any wax? If that doesn't do the trick i'll try Scratch-X |

+1. This week i've re-learned the lesson if you want something done RIGHT, do it yourself.

Absolutely, it is an abrasive. Get some of the fine clay and you may not even need to do any post polishing. You will and should, clay the entire hood or you'll have some unevenness when viewed in the sunlight.
