$900 to replace emblem on steering wheel!

So the roundel on my steering wheel has this weird bubbling thing going on tand looks kind of bad. Went by the dealership and they said the whole airbag unit had to be replaced which the part alone is $900!!! Fortunately the car is under warranty and since this is a manufacturing defect it is covered under warranty!

Makes you wonder why they couldn't deisgn it where the roundel itself could be swapped out. Safety reason of some sort with the airbag???

Oh well all i care is it is going to be at no cost to me.

I was told the entire valve cover needed to be replaced to fix my bubbling ///M badge as well. They denied the repair. I bought the badge separately(don't know why the dealer did not think of this) and repaired it myself. It could be the emblem on the air bag does not come off on its own. At least they are doing it for you.

FYI you can buy a sticker to cover the Abag roundel (and optionally change the color) from Bavauto. It includes stickers for the wheel roundels, hood roundel, side markers etc for $25.00. That's an $875 savings.... but yes the airbag module does cost $900. But you got it under warranty so good on ya.

Wow, didn't think that was an option. Mine has the same issue, not necessarily bubbling but it looks crappy and bothers me. Will look into it at the dealer.

That's $25 more than he had to spend.

Yup. Nice to see BMWNA actually covering something.

To be honest I actually felt a little bad about it cause it seems like such a waste... then I thought about all the ways that dealerships have tried to screw me and others out there, and any hint of remorse vanished!

Hell the stealership here doesn't even know how to program the car options, i.e., doors lock on drive away, lange change signal, etc. - But when I took it in he already had a price for these things: $45 PER feature to activate/change!!!! i had like 4-5 things i wanted adjusted that was crazy!!! i picked the two I most wanted and then an hour later they come back and tell me it's not possible!!!!! Well how is it everyone else is getting it done and how did you quote me a price for it when you don't even know if it can be done; didn't even bother wasting my time with these idiots. This was several months ago - hopefully they will be able to activate my OEM alarm this time. Hmmm....I went ranting off topic on my own thread didn't I?

Haha, you have to wait till page two to get off topic here Doc

Yeah, I was told the triple turn signal was not possible the first time in. I printed off instructions from Rick (I think) and took it in and it magically was possible then.

I was getting a other few things done at my indi,
and he charged me $40 to make any changes I wanted.

A good indi tech is worth his weight in gold with these cars.

I agree. I wish I could find one here. My local stealer didn't know what I was talking about when I wanted the 8 engine mount bolts checked.

It does appear that the emblem on the airbag is attached to the airbag.

http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...95&hg=32&fg=35

Which sort of makes sense, seeing as how that cover has to tear apart correctly when the air bag is deployed. BMW probably doesn't want a situation where an incorrectly attached emblem does extra damage when the airbag is deployed.
