H&R coilovers making noises in rear?

Im hearing clunking sounds when going over bumps in the back. My springs are mounted so the tight coils are up top. Put felt tape on the bottom adjustable spring perch. The springs dont move much by hand. The struts' 2 top mounting nuts are tight. The rest of the suspension feels tight. Heat shields are fixed on. Rear diffuser is fixed on well too. There is paint missing on the rear springs from compressing.

Before i had a similar noise when my rear spring perch wasnt on tight but it seem to be tight now. I got inside the trunk with my girl driving (lol) to watch the strut mounting points and they seem to be operating fine. My left side has an inverted cup like metal washer on the top of the assembly on the wheel well opening side, but i didnt put that on my other side. Wasnt making noises anyway for weeks after install

Check sway bars front and back. All bolts. Just a shoot in the dark with information given

Yeah the sway in the back is on tight... The rear bumper has a little bit of play up and down but doubt its enough to cause that noise

I doubt that is the case. It's just a spring and replacement dampener. Not much different than a stock setup. I don't have any noises coming from mine.

I don't know if I HAVE rear shock mounts. The HR coilovers have their own mounting system I think, with 2 bolts connecting it through the chassi up top. There's rubber bushings on top and bottom. Maybe I AM missing something. I'll take top and bottom pics. BUT, it was quiet for a few weeks after the install.

A local generic shop couldn't find anything. I'm gonna try removing my rear sway bar, maybe the bushings are SOMEHOW worn at only 54k miles

You're stock rsm's may need to be replaced...

I picked stock RSM ... the guy who sold me his suspension disliked the squeeky sound of the RE ones. We first installed the RE ones because I figured they would be better as per all I have read. Took them off after a few km and went back to stock. Ride was harsher as well with them on. To each their own I suppose.

For what it's worth, I have the RE rsm's and they don't make a squeak. I think RE warns on their site if you tighten them too much it may cause noise.

Just replace them with new oem units. I adapted my oem mounts to my h&r's and I don't have any issues. Drives very well and no noises

I watched their install video and we didn't have them on tight. Matched for appearance to what they were showing of how the bushing should look. Could be that they were used and the bushings were over tightened before which caused vatigue, but they had tops 3K km on them so not too sure.

On a related note, I had BMW replace my stock RSM (under warranty) before we installed the KW's and omg did the master tech tighten them. We struggled to loosen them. When we installed them on the KW's with suggested torque I found that they were a little noisey. Tightened them up more than suggested and they operated much quieter and have been good ever since.

Found the problem. It was the rear shock mounts. When installing them, i put the wrong underside washer on one side and no underside washer on the other. Last night the one with no washer punched through. Replaced them both in 45 mins today since my trunk trim was already off

Interesting. I found that BMW used two washers on the passenger side but when we reinstalled we used only one.

Sorry to revive an old thread. How are your coilovers and shock mounts that came with the coil overs holding up? I've got a set of H&R coil overs on the way and I wasn't sure if I should pick up a set of RE RSMs. Thanks.

the OEM ones are nice and quiet, haven't inspected them visually but I imagine they're fine
