Threaded shifter adapter-Interest?

Hi All,

Not sure if anyone hates the oem "press fit" knobs like I do, but I got sick and tired of it after my last track event when the knob broke and continuously spun on the shift lever itself. Plus, I am not a fan of the limited availability of aftermarket knobs for BMW's.

My remedy was to make a new threaded adapter so that I could use some of my old knobs. The product is below. I made these on my crappy harbor fright lathe that decided to break down after my 4th prototype.

OD for the unit measures 19mm

What do you guys think?

Cool! What's the thread pitch? There's some great knobs out there (can't believe I just said that) that all the Honda guys have access to.

Thread pitch is m10x1.25; Mostly Mazda and Nissan. Honda's use 10x1.5 and I think toyotas use 12x1.25.

The way I made these-the insert can be swapped to accommodate different knobs

Also thinking of making this as a one piece design.

I have had mine pop off on me a few times. It is the ZHP one that I bought new and installed myself and pounded on with my palm. I have never had it twist on me, but I have had it pop off when grabbing a quick 2nd a few times. I about had to call superman to get the old one off, so I was surprised this one came off on me. I can't just tug it off either, but the pressure of slamming 2nd can make it come off. Always wondered why it was not threaded. My Nissan 300 has a HEAVY weighted one and shifts like butter. Love to see something like that on here. ZHP helps, but it is a light weight compared to my 300. I could kill someone with that thing.

The knob I have as pictured is off my 350z actually. It is a heavy weighted knob coming in at over 1lb. Makes shifting very smooth and keeps it precise still.

Gong to be trying different knobs to see how they fit, but this is by far my favorite.

Not sure if you guys realised but this thread is quite old...

Another option is to have a custom shifter made. I got mine from wc lathe werks. Check out my thread for details.

If any of you happen to still be interested, I have one of these originally purchased from OG_M3 that I'd like to sell. I never ended up using it, went a different route. Shoot me a PM if interested!
