Installing headers

The headers for my E85 2.5i just came in, does anyone know if it's difficult to install them? And approximately how long would it take

Google installation on an E46 3-series. It's almost the same for the Z4. I had a shop do it in a few hours. It took me a whole day when I tried it.

I did mine in approx 4 hours.
I remember having to fish them up from underneath the car.
I would also recommend putting a heat resistant coating on them to reduce under hood temps.

I got the $275 E46 headers from bimmer brakes, fitment shouldn't be an issue correct?

Absolutely perfect fit.
What are you doing with the cats and post cat sensors?

You will likely get a SES anyway without cats

I will be trying the O2 sims at the end of e season to see if I can negate the SES I am getting.

Would you happen to know how many sensors the E85 headers have?

There should be 4 bungs on the header you have.
I used only 3 and plugged the 4th, the 3rd was for an AFR sensor.
Take note of which trio of cylinders goes to each of the stock pre cat sensors when you disconnect everything.
I labelled them precat front and precat rear when I did the swap.
Not sure if it matters but did not want to take any chances
Also label the post cat sensors for future reference.

Got it, I'll make sure I do that. Thank you for the help! I'm supposed to get them on in the next week or so, I'll let you know how it goes.

It's easy

I disagree, don't coat them, the heat's going somewhere, it just doesn't disappear but no matter what without cat's you'll be running cooler.

You can also play with removing some of the engine bay heat shielding on the passenger side which might make your install easier. Stay away from removing lower shielding unless your section 2 is cat-less as well.

Actually it has been proven that a coating on the outsdie retains the heat and keeps under hood temps down.
In addition there is a product now that you can coat the inside of the pipes which increases the amount of heat retained inside the header and further reduces the radiant temp.

These guys are local to me and worked with the University of Waterloo developing these coatings.

I had my header and complete system coated on the outside and the inside of the header coated with the XMC product. The tubes were smooth as glass on the inside.

I used them as well for my headers. Coating the inside is what is more important than coating the outside of the headers.
