People WITHOUT a chirp, please read!!

Hi Folks,

I ordered the Z4 alarm with motion sensor and installed it myself. I just had it programmed at the dealer....and everything works, EXCEPT THE CHIRP!

I get a chirp when I DISARM the car, but not when I arm the car.

I think this might be a programming bug and I'd like to let a senior technical person at BMW know about this that I know.

If you DO NOT have a chirp, please respond with:

a) Last 7 digits of your VIN

b) Year/model of car (i.e. '05 3.0 Roadster)

c) What chirps work / which ones are missing

This will really help in getting this resolved.

Interestingly enough, the chirps DID work on my car before I had it programmed, but of course the motion sensor did not work at all, and I don't believe the actual alarm worked either...

Strange!

Thanks,

Chris

I had problem with no chirp when arming/locking the car. My indy shop activated the alarm for me. There are few changes after alarm was activated. Selective entry was activated so you need multiple key presses to unlock passenger side door. Rolling lock was not activeated. Security lock where you unlock the car and lock itself after a few minutes was not working. My indy shop checked everything and couldn't figure it out.

I took it to dealer last Saturday. It took them two hours to figure it out and get all my previous program setting correct. The tech said they ran into this problem before. The car chirp once when arming now. I didn't ask what they did to correct this. I noticed the alram for trunk is deactivated. You can arm/disarm alarm when the trunk is open. Opening trunk do not set off alarm. I will bring back when I have time to check this again.

MY vin is LL93701. It is an 07 M Coupe with MY 11/06

I had similar problem when I first installed my alarm - I would get chirp on either lock or unlock (can't remember which), but not on the other. I disconnected the connector attached to the siren and reconnected - problem went away - so I assumed that the connectors were not mated correctly. Possible your connectors came slightly apart?

Hi there,

Thanks for the information. My alarm chirped both ways before I activated it; but after, it only chirps when disarming.

I think I've decided I am going to purchase a GT1 to see what I can make of this. I have an airbag light I need to diagnose anyways, and my dealer hasn't had much luck diagnosing it, so I'll let you know what I find in a few weeks.

Did ours last weekend, it chirps on lock and unlock as well. Easy to do, except for the grit that fell on my face from removing that rear panel (not to self, wear safety goggles next time ). Need to get it coded/activated (along with other "programmable" options changed)....I need to call my indy shop Monday.

Hey guys,

I was wondering if anyone knew if this was compatable with an 03/03? I emailed getbmwparts.com and they said that it wasnt listed to fit my vin, but that I should ask here to see if anyone had gotten it to work.. I did look through this thread and didnt notice any references to this month/year combination.

Thanks
Phil

Phil, with what i can see from others on here,, car production start to 12/2002 diffo a no no. Somebody with a 06/2003 had success, soooo 01 - 06/2003 is when it changed, probably 04/2003 since features were dropped and added on that date.

I changed to Bimmerworld tranny mount, Redline, and Autosolutions SSK. This make shifting very precise. I will test 1st > 2nd fast shift next time out on the track.

#65730309944 is for an alarm system.
#65730302424 is for an alarm kit.

When you look for the specific parts for the kit (I can't find a part #'s, just a listing) you get the following:

Control Module - $251.38
Ignition immobilizer Module $125.67
Inclination sensor - $143.83
Siren - ? (no price listed)

The kit shown on Tischer shows an inclination sensor, sensor bracket, and alarm horn.

So, we have two kits. Inclination and Siren/horn are common to both...so it looks like we have a chirp when the locks are ingaged/disengaged when installed and not activated. When activated the alarm will go off when trunk or doors are opended without remote key?

So...I agree that the chirp is worth the money and you get some theft protection if activated. The ignition kill and motion sensor would be nice adds but you pay through the teeth for both, and you will also need the command module.
I thought all these cars have the Ignition immobilizer standard (part of the coded key), so why would you need to add this feature again?

I can't say with certainty, but I did look at Tisher, and the kit looks different than the one I installed on the ///M. Price is also much higher, about 130 for the parts. You could install them, but you're going to need to have it coded for it to actually work. 290 for parts, labor, and coding isn't that bad given the price rrom Tisher. But many of us got in on the ///M alarm for 40 bucks, which was just a steal.

Why not buy this for 40 bucks, get the "locked" confirmation chirp, blinking clown nose, and etc.? I was going to have the car was coded for DRL, locks, pathway illumination anyway, so coding the alarm is basically "free". Why not for the price?

If it works like mine (and that's an if not a will) then the car will beep when "armed" and beep when "disarmed". Clown nose will blink. Other than that the alarm will do nothing. Seems pricey for it to do nothing. You could price coding at an indie shop--mine is charging 100 bucks to code the alarm (and set any other coding options like locks, DRLs, etc.). Usually much cheaper than the stealer.

Question for you roadster guys: my dad wants to get the alarm for his Z4M roadster and is trying to decide between going with/without the motion sensor. What'd you go with? Is the motion worth the extra $200?

Once alarm is activated by dealer, disarm chirps twice. Arming doesnt chirp at all.

If I had to do it over again and I felt compelled to have the dealer activate the alarm, I would pay the additional $200 bucks for the motion sensor. I would do the install myself, unless the dealer gives you a price break on the whole enchilada.

I don't plan to activate the alarm. I wanted chirps and that is what I got! And for $40 bucks it has been one of my best/cheapest upgrades.
