Z4 3.0i - recommended tire size?

I'm purchasing an '04 3.0i with factory 18"s that needs tires. Based on very favorable reviews of the Michelin Pilot Super Sports I'd like to pick up a set, but have a question about size.

Based on OEM specs Discount Tire is quoting 225/40ZR18XL for the front and 255/35ZR18XL for the rear. Do I just go with those or do I go a bit wider? Will I run into any issues by doing so?

I plan on mostly street driving, however, I'd like to do a little autocrossing and light track as well.

Thoughts, suggestions and comments are greatly appreciated!

You should be able to go +1 size up (e.g. 235/40/18 and 265/35/18 respectively). I am running those on my Style 108s without any issues.

Cool. Really dumb question though (from a newbie): Will they work on 107s as well?

Not a dumb question unless you didn't ask.

107s and 108s are the exact same width and backspacing

18x8 ET47 front
18x8.5 ET50 rear

I would be inclined to keep the stock sizes due to speedo error, and a 265 width tires on 8.5" wheels is on the stuffed side.

Would you please post some close up pics? I want to do this on my 108s as well but I was told it was not recommended and would bulge out.

I think I'm leaning toward stock sizes for the reasons mentioned. What are your thoughts on spacers? I've seen numerous posts about them and they interest me especially when going through the process of having new tires mounted. Is their sole purpose to simply push your wheels/tires outward for cosmetic reasons? Do we like them? Do they effect driving characteristics? What size spacers on a 3.0i with stock size 18" wheels/tires?
