I don't think power would meaningfully change in either direction, but increased temps likely aren't good for your engine oil and exhaust valves. The weight savings are negligible, it seems this mod is a trade between a "clean" engine bay and failing smog at the least (in California anyway). |

Here we go: you need a 10mm socket for the engine block connection, and 13mm socket for the bracket connection. 10 minute job max.
Oddly, the Lang Racing piece comes with bolts, instead of nuts. So... I just re-used the stock nuts. Maybe there's a way to remove the bolts protruding from the engine block, but I didn't think it was worth the risk of stripping the thread. NO CEL. Here's the explanation from ECS: "The SAP in a vehicle injects air into the manifold to recreate a lean condition which causes the catalytic converters to raise in temperature until they are at optimum efficiency. If running exhaust headers this system is not necessary" Weight Saved: 4.25lbs or 1935 grams

Fair enough if smog isnt a concern however, it isn't the cats that cause an increase in combustion temps. My understanding is that the exhaust gases that get re-routed back into the combustion chamber don't ignite like A/F does, which creates the cooling effect.

I think this thing just pumps air into the exhaust chamber, I don't think re-routing hot air cools anything down, and I don't think this secondary air pump grabs anything but ambient air. I could be wrong, I'm just going by the ECS product description

The function of the SAP is as you describe, it helps to warm up the cats on a cold start. This is a different function than what EGR does. I'm not sure if any of the hardware for the two systems in shared, as I said earlier I don't know the specifics of the system on the S54. I just saw an earlier post about an EGR delete and it raised my eyebrow. I would be wary of messing with this outside of race applications. I have no idea how FI on a car like yours might play into it either.

So it might be the ESS software that delete the CEL than. I've started the car last winter at -20 degrees Celsius and never had a CEL and idle was perfect.

Ugh. The CEL is a deal breaker for me. I'll have to wait until I actually install my tune. The BMW block off plate is great for Cali guys because you don't want anything fancy setting off the visual during a smog check.

I messaged evolve about removing the code...they said just need the exact code and they can turn it off
I'll be pulling off the pump this spring, and then updating the tune

Removing the code with a tune is only good if all the sensors remain in their readiness state for smog checks.
