Send some good vibes my way today...
Took my e85 in this morning to have my lazy top that won't go back up looked at.
On my way to the dealership (which is .6 miles from my house) the Service Engine Soon light came on.

Check engine light? Hope it's an oxygen sensor or something not ominous. Best of luck and may the force be with you. |

Thank you. Quote came back...
Convertible top motor and seals --- $1700 Check engine--- Replace all spark plugs and coil for cylinder 5 --- $400 Is this reasonable? If it is within a few hundred bucks, having it done by the dealer that is walking distance is worth the convenience. If a third party can save me more than that, I may be all for it. Mind you, I have to pay the $130 diagnostic if I choose to take one of these services elsewhere.

For a motor and leaking seals that is low. To replace both lifters due to leaking are $615.30 each.
The top motor is $450-$525 +/- so they are either underestimating or they gave you a very sweet deal on parts and labor. To do both of those should be over $2,000 so you need to ask if they include new lifters or rebuilt ones with improved seals which are an improvement over the OEM seals. Ask questions! If it includes as they quoted you I would take that quote. |

Thank you. These questions sound better than "Can you do better on the price?" which was already asked .

Apparently, it did not need new lifters. The motor was shot. Even my own novice diagnosis could see this by the sounds it was(not) making (even though I was in denial and hoping for a miracle cure).
I ok'd the work after he got the price down a little lower for me. It has already cost me $ to concentrate on this over work. Convenience, brand name and having no time or will to shop it around further wore me down. Thank you for the assist.
