Hard wire radar detector install???

I'm going to try to hard wire my new radar detector in my Z4MR today and had two questions:

In the map light, what color wire do I tap into?

When running the phone cord through the windshield/plastic head part, can I just pull it down a little or do I have to take something off?

Thanks!

Add a Fuse from autozone, easiest and simplest way imo.

As stated, use a add-a-fuse and run the power wire to the fuse box. That should take about 20min. Both my RD and Ipod get power from the fuse box. All wires are hidden.

I'm going to tap into the map light. I don't want to do the fuse box.

Thanks for reposting this. Saved me the time to look it up. Just got my R2D2 (Valentine 1) a few days ago and this thread motivated me to hard wire it. I followed the video and tapped the Purple with white strip and testing it in my drive way, it works fine. The V1 comes with a kit that includes an inline fuse. If you're a coupe, you can push all the wires up around the sunglasses holder (which can't even hold sunglasses). I used the straight wire to pop it out the front of the headliner and connect to the V1.

According the the video he taps the purple/white wire. Just did it in my car and so far it's working fine.

End result works great and looks clean.

After a few days with the V1 tapped to purple with white, it is working great. Wish I would of bought one sooner. Pick up cops from far far away.

I used purple/white.

I used the Escort Hardwire kit that already have a fuse built into it and a ground wire. Simple and easy

Glad you finally got it hardwired. It is hard to believe you ever did without once it is in there!
