DIY E85 1M bumper front splitter

Hi everyone!

After getting the 1M E85 front bumper, I felt that it needed a splitter just to finish the look. So here we go (very simple):

First, let's find a piece of cardboard that fits the bumper. Good thing I hold onto the cardboard from new furniture:

Next, I draw and cut out a template. I wanted a splitter that kind of followed the shape of the bumper.

Don't worry that it's uneven, we can shape that out later

Next, I wasn't sure if I wanted it to look too much of a semi-circle. So, I cut out a chunk on the left side and left the right for comparison reasons

LEFT

RIGHT

Next, we trace it out on a sheet of ABS (I had to use two pieces because I didn't have a piece big enough, I will use some acetone or ABS glue to fuse/bond them together). I used a Variable speed jigsaw to cut out the ABS sheet and used a dremel to go around the edges to fine tune the shape.

Sorry about the crappy pic. My phone was dying and it goes slow when taking photos

I do plan on trimming the left and right sides to sit flush with the bumper OR I might make those ends flare up. I am not sure yet.

To do:
-ABS Glue/Acetone to fuse/bond then together
-Decide what to do with the corners: flare up or cut away
-Paint/finish/wrap to hide the split line
-Drill and install support rods and attach onto the bumper

But before that, I need to wrap the bumper...but that is for a totally different thread.

Let me know what you guys think

Looks good.

FYI if you send that cardboard cutout to APR Performance they will make a carbon fibre version. Thoughts for future use!

Thanks Vanne!

I'm just waiting for it to get warmer here in Toronto before I can start working on the car. I will definitely post pics.
