Best iPod integration kit
I know DICE makes a nice one but BMW offers one as well. Which is the best one of an 04? I have "premium" sound if that matters?

I had the Dice, but didn't care for the sound or operation, switched to USA Spec PA12 BMW it has a way better sound quality for me.

I bought a dice setup, a year later and several attempts to get it working and it is still sitting on the bench. I've been on the phone with the dealer, and with Dice to no resolution. I would not recommend the product....

I'm going cheap and easy right now since my car already has the CD Changer, I just use the AUX input.

Your car is probably missing a required cable to connect it (my '05 was). Is the situation you can't find the proper cabling?

http://www.bavariansoundwerks.com/pr...tegration-Kit/ Some of the older models behaved badly, but since they came out with the SilverLine, and Mediabiridge...these things have been rock solid.

I just did the Mediabridge solution...Intravee II is no longer available...couldn't find it. So far Mediabridge took me 15 mins to hook up and worked fine. Added BT, IPOD, USB, and Sirius too flawlessly. It did take me another 1.5 to clean up the install, re-route cables and route the mic somewhere to the interior of the car.
So far I'd say it accomplished what I wanted for under $360 total cost and which I could do myself without excessive modification or extra cost taking the car to a dealer/installer. With Mediabridge I now have sat, ipod, and BT operation in a 5 yr old car (it had factory BT [no codes] and NAV but no ipod) not exactly designed for the latest and greatest tech stuff (i.e. iphone 4, BT streaming, Sirius, USB connectivity, etc) and I can't comment on the other options as I've never seen them. Just me 2cents.

I have the Duo from Bavarian Soundwerks as well and it works fine. I routed the cable in to the center storage compartment and keep my ipod vlecroed to the door. Since it locks when the car is locked I just leave it in there. I also have sirius sat radio and that works as well. The Nav display is a one line affair, so not as much info as the intravee.

Not at the moment but cool things have popped up recently with intravee updates. (data logging ie you drop off the car at the dealer you can see the how fast they drove it and how they revved it.) Quote:

Much thanks! Edit: I just looked at the USASPEC website and sadly it seems the PA12 is not compatible with the Premium Sound/Nav system . Is this correct information? Last edited by elerner61; 06-13-2011 at 10:16 AM.. |

+1 on Intravee When I was looking into integrated aftermarket sat radio I wanted to avoid Dice - too much frustrations from other forum members. The OEM module was just not an option for the $$$$. There are usually a dozen or so KCA-420's on ebay and they will run $50 - $100. I paid $90 NIB and then added the wake up mod chip myself for around $8. I keep my 3rd Gen Nano in the car all the time - any newer ipods will need a charge adapter. Info about this is on the intravee forums. Either the ALP-1 (Sirius) or TUA-T020XM (XM) modules can be had on ebay for $25 and up. The intravee is what cost a pretty penny. Toysinyourcar.com is the place http://www.toysinyourcar.com/acatalog/intravee.html This is a UK website and between the VAT and exchange rate your looking at $250-$300. Once in a blue moon one will come up on ebay. There was also a group buy on this forum a while back. The latest firmware version for the intravee has a lot of cool options especially if you have Nav. |

Shame on the BT codes - The BT code (PK) is on the back of the TCU in the trunk facing forward. I found mine by popping off the drivers side subwoofer cover and looking through to the trunk with a flashlight. http://www.zpost.com/forums/showthre...bluetooth+code |

Mine worked right out the box. Took me 5 mins to connect it and my ipod in the trunk just laying out...didn't tuck anything away just to ensure functionality. Worked great and as advertised. Controls are a bit rudimentary I must admit but its functional. Granted its not idrive or audi MMI by any means. Now the tear down of the carpet and mounting and wiring routing after I confirmed it worked DID take me about a good 1.5 hrs but otherwise don't see what the big fuss everyone is making about it is for as it seems to work as advertised on youtube and other places.

I agree.... DICE seems to have made huge strides in their devices. I know of two people with the Mediabridge and one other with the same DUO as I have....everyone loves the units. I think the prior history of settings and glitches seems to continue to hamper the reputation of the current crop of products that the older series of devices received.
