Did the setup stay free of CE codes long term?
What's the pipe diameter into and out of the muffler?
Why not run a 3" pipe outlet instead of two separate pipes?

Any reason not to do this to an M? It certainly doesn't need two mufflers back there.
Asking because I just bought an MZ4 and want to drop the boat anchor exhaust before doing other tuning.
Not M owner but I did a single 3" stainless / mandrel exhaust after I installed headers. And to answer your question yes you really don't need the duals. Bimmerworld's race exhaust for the e46 M3 is a single sided exhaust, clearly more functional than aesthetics but it's not for everyone.

Headers merged to single 3"

Mandrel bent with small Flowmaster muffler in the back

Eventually switched from oval to dual tip

After months of searching only place I could find it was eBay but I made sure to filter for made/sold in USA:

Stainless Steel Dual 3" Outlet/ Single 3" Inlet Slant Cut Exhaust Tip - Left

I'm getting ready to do this mod- 07 3.0i with 3 stage manifold conversion.

I can't find a consensus on the correct muffler to use. The OP and video show a 12468 model, yet others are stating that the 12468 is too large and the 11385 is more suitable.

https://www.magnaflow.com/products?partNumber=12468
https://www.magnaflow.com/products?partNumber=11385

Can anyone else confirm which is the better fit, and if there is sound differences between the two?

I used the 12468 on my custom 3.0 exhaust
It fit fine but I found it too loud

Ok, my exhaust is done.

The 12468 is a 5x8 muffler and results in the muffler hanging down lower than the cross brace. I chose the 11385 Magnaflow and it fits relatively well. Its a 4x9 design.

I used two 3" tapered exhaust tips from ebay.

The custom cutting and welding to remove the secondary cats and stock muffler was done locally for $208.

03-05 Z4's use a resonator and don't have space for this muffler in the tunnel.

06-08 N52 Z4's have two secondary cats and have a larger tunnel that allow this muffler to fit, albeit relatively tight.

The sound is absolutely incredible. Best exhaust note I've heard on a non-M bmw. Not too loud either on the highway, barely louder than stock.

Pics and videos coming later

Really appreciate your post and the fact you verified fitment of the two mufflers between the various years. I'm getting ready to do mine and have been curious about which muffler to use and that's the main reason I hadn't moved forward yet (local shops don't seem to stock either one).

Anyway, did you wind up removing secondary cats, resonator and the rear box? I'm trying to decide which route to go with mine prior to scheduling the appointment. Big difference though is that I've got a Z4M rear bumper and will be going with a dual exhaust set up so trying to figure out what set up will be best for street use with occasional track days.

Question option for 03-05 exhaust mod?

This is the most helpful thread I've found on exhausts for our cars and while if you have a 05 or newer the magna flow muffler seems the way to go but for the earlier cars is there an option available that won't hang down and still fit one of magnaflow's mufflers? Otherwise i am thinking of making a manual exhaust cutout right before the last muffler with a hinge to open and close a bypass on one or both of the pipes. Any thoughts on this?

Some light revving as the car wasn't fully warmed up. Definitely not too loud but makes it sound like a sports car should. No drone on the highway.

The only thing I'm not totally happy with is the placement of the exhaust tips- I think they are a bit far apart and I will probably take them back to get realigned.

So if I understand correctly - no stock secondaries, no resonator and you put that magnaflow in place of the stock muffler?

Power increase? Sound?

On the facelift version, there are two secondary cats in the center tunnel section, then the suitcase muffler in the back.

The mod is to cut out the secondaries and replace it with the magnaflow in the same place in the center tunnel.

Its a tight fit but the part number I listed works on mine and only has about .5" exposed from the bottom. Its louder and deeper but not to where it's annoying. Video is above. Power increase is negligible.

On your car like mine you have the primary CATs in the exhaust manifolds, the secondary CATs, and a small resonator box before you get to the rather small muffler. I did the muffler delete and it yielded a sound similar to the videos in this thread and it was much less expensive to do. Had it for several months now and very happy with it.

I'm sorry if I'm beating a dead horse. I was really inspired with this thread so I went ahead and did the same thing. This is to clarify any further questions other members may have as I was confused with all the other custom ways presented to us on this thread.

My car: 2006 BMW Z4 3.0i Roadster

Materials & Cost:
Magnaflow 11385: [$94.39 Amazon Prime] - Replaced the secondary cats
Magnaflow tips: 35122 (x2): [$103.52 - Summit Racing] - Replaced the Rear Muffler
Exhaust Shop labor fee [Oakland, CA]: [$120]
Total Spent: $317.91

Deleted: Secondary Cats and Rear Muffler. <-- Stored just in case CA smog test screws me over.

Sound: I'm absolutely in love. It sounds just like the OP's. My buddy had a 2004 330i SMG with Eisenmann exhaust - I honestly think its is relatively identical if not close in person. No drone IMO. Me and my girlfriend immediately noticed people staring us and "thumbs up" as we were cruising around town.

Butt Dyno: I don't really feel a difference. I'm gonna be honest, maybe it feels a bit more responsive? but that is probably my happy feet. =)

I will post a video when I get home. Thank you again OP for doing this thread.

I ended up going a less expensive route with mine. It may be on the slightly louder side with some drone at lower speeds. I am sure down the road when I want to start messing with it again I will do headers/secondary cat delete. Removed the rear box and had two small vibrant resonators installed and added Corsa tips.

I like it, nice n simple. Be sure to upload some vids!

Btw hard to tell from that angle but make sure you have room between tips and bumper (right side looks awfully close). The exhaust bounces around and will expand as it heats up so you want to make sure there's enough room else you risk melting the cutout area.

I will eventually get some videos. It is pretty well mounted and has enough space on either side. It is just the picture that makes it looks close. Have about a inch of space on the top.

How much of a difference does the Magnaflow make in place of the secondary cats? I have done the muffler delete.
