Radio cuts out while driving...

Hey guys, I recently begun experiencing my radio shutting off on it's own, followed by a deafening hum from my speakers. The hum is much like if you were to plug a wrong input jack in. I do have my IPhone plugged into my aux jack.. But there's only one way of using it, so i doubt if I'm doing anything wrong there. Also.. If I pull over and shut the engine.. The radio will go back on, but not everytime, and the frequency of which this is happening is more and more. Needless to say it's a real pain in the ass. Has anyone experienced this as well and if so what was the cause and solution? Thanks again!
