Dead amplifier???
Hello fellow Zers,
I have 2003 Z4 3.0i with 10 speakers. So one day, I was using the stereo and bumped up the volume a bit high. Kept it that way and everything sounded good. No weird noises at all from any of the speakers. I turned the car back on but nothing was coming from the speakers. Checked the head unit and everything was working great. Changed to CDs, AUXs, FM, AM nothing... So I turned off the stereo for a while and turned it on. Soon as I turn on the audio, I hear small and quiet 'boom' sound from speakers (don't know which speaker it is coming from) then they are quiet again... Searched around forum to see if any other Z owners had the issue, and looks like it's an amplifier issue. So I took out the amp from the trunk and.... it looks perfect. Like brand new. No rust no damage. I opened up the amp, and even inside it looks new... So I'm completely lost and what's causing this issue... Does anyone have had same experience? or any guesses on what could be wrong? |

I used to have an issue with my si, where it was like the amp would randomly turn off everything else worked, i would have to completely shut the car off to get it to work again. Not sure what caused it, I ended up trading it in for a M.
But i put a full system in the M and have everything except the tweeters available if you need parts, everything worked great when i replaced it. |

Ooh, thanks for the offer Oazix
But I'm not sure if M amplifiers are the same with non-M amplifiers... I have decided to buy an aftermarket amp and headunit to install. It was a pain to find wiring diagrams for Z4 mainly because the online BMW WDS website uses a Java that is ancient and new version of Java just shuts it out. |
