fixit ticket for not having front license plate - advice please
i got pulled over for going 75 and the cop was nice enough to slap me with no front license plate with it. i guess the citation was too blank with only speeding on it.
i'd HATE to drill on my front bumper so i'm just wondering if i can just use tape when i get it signed off? i live in california and i guess anyone can be victimized for the state deficit, not to mention IOU tax refund crap. sigh... Anyways, thanks for your advice in advance |

I got mine signed off by an officer after showing her a photoshopped PICTURE of my car with the license plate on it...LOL
You should be able to find some way around it.

Do a search either here or on bimmerfest for the bracket that screws into the tow hook threads, that way you can just take it off after getting it signed off and replace the cap.
Found the link: http://www.gominigo.com/NHLPB-main.html

i used double sided tape...then the first time they said i cant use t and i have to screw it into the bumper.
sooo...second time i cut off the heads of 2 screws, taped the plate on the bumper (making sure there was enough cushion), and i taped the screw heads onto the plate...after all this they signed off and i came home and took it off. Sounds like a lot of work but it isnt and i didnt have to drill holes |

Thankfully in Alabama, a front plate is not required. As for you suitation, I would go with the tape method with the bolts and all that and tape the plate holder onto the bumper as SlikM stated, or photoshop the plate onto the car and show a picture of the corrected offense like wasupdu did. Theres another member here on the board that folded the plate along the lines of the bumper and I think it looks pretty good. upper corners are folded behind each of the kidney grilles and the bottom is folded under. Looks sleek IMO. Hope this helps in some way.

I went with the gominigo bracket, it's just one less thing to attract unwanted attention to my car. I also kind of like the way it looks with it off to the side.

I use doubled sided tape. Another solution would be to buy a front license plate mounting bracket such as the one Mazda sells for the first generation Miata. It's a L-shaped bracket that would mount deep inside the main air intake, underneath the overhang. Not a direct bolt on of course, but could be adapted. The end result would be a front plate that has a small gap between the bumper and plate. Why BMW doesn't adapt something similar is beyond me (for the US market). They should realize we don't want holes in our cars.
I'm registering my cars in NC when I return to the States mainly because NC doesn't use a front license plate!

Thanks everyone for suggestions.
LOL at nickpapa's link. Yea, I think I may go with the tow hook bracket since this will be more of a "permanent" solution until CA comes out of this deficit issue. And one more side story - when I got pulled over going 75 the cop said "nice car, but you shouldn't be testing your car's capability on public road" LOL.. that left me speechless and I just figured I'd just be quiet the entire time since he seemed to be prepared to make the night a very long one for me. Anyways, drive at the legal speed limit, everyone. |

I think I need "BMW 100-108mm 'NO HOLES' LPB Kit" and "One-Piece Plate Holder Only". But do I need to get the "offset bracket"? Thanks! |

An oldie but goodie. Did the same for my Z4, just didn't take the time to shoot pics. Works great. BTW, if you plan on cruising through LAX the front plate is a must - the LAX police view it as a dependable revenue stream.

100-108mm "no holes" LPB kit $65 and it works like a charm. No need for an offset bracket.

Similar idea as my Miata example, but I like yours better. Seems the best solution.

It is kind of a pain to put together for as simple as it is but it does work very well once set up

Just bolt the damn thing on and be done with it. Why are so many people so uptight about doing this? If you're in a state where a front plate is required, it should be there all the time anyways, so BFD if you drill your precious bumper. Europeans have been doing it forever and don't seem to mind.
