It makes me so happy to find someone who parks like me. And I got so tired of scratching up my dragon teeth that I finally bought an aftermarket curb sensor. I do agree that the "split the difference, ignore the strips" idea is a good part of it. And I am old, fat and tall. If I can't open the driver door to its full opening (that is a looong door) it is hard to get out--or worse yet, back in.
I do own a set of magnetized door guard pads that will almost fill the space between fenders, I use them if I have no choice where to park. But mostly I believe that parking away from others in an end spot against the curb will protect me. |

This is all too true for so many human interactions. There's often a good explanation for things; everyone out there isn't a stupid, incapable, careless ass. "Why is this person driving so slow!!!". It's because they have a load of groceries that they're trying to keep from flying all over.
We're all imperfect works in progress. |

So I've been parking out on the deserted part of the lot for the past few months to avoid all these people. All is well, so I thought. Came out at lunch a couple of days ago to find this

I figured - hey, maybe it's a spot that he/she likes. So I moved a few spots over and guessed what happened today? Someone decided that my car is lonely and needed some company
I don't understand people Wouldn't it be easier for them to get out of their car if they just leave a space between us??? Last edited by XMetal; 01-26-2017 at 08:53 PM.. |

This may in fact NOT be a problem; here's why.
The car that is cuddling up next to yours is a Lexus. Methinks that its owner is the sort who values his car and doesn't want it dinged, and would be mortified to ding someone else's nice car. I think he thinks you are like minded and that by parking next to your nice car, he is protecting both the passenger side of your car and the driver side of his.

Very big pet peeve of mine, and it's just getting worse. My insurance just went up, and I called my agent who is a personal friend of mine. He said "distracted driving" as they call it, is an epidemic that is costing the insurance industry millions. I see it daily, from driving right up to parking all over the place. Until society starts treating texting and messing with your phone (staring at the screen) like drunk driving, it's not going to stop. I'd nail people with a loss of license and heavy insurance premium, once they get their driving privilege back, similar to how they treat drunk drivers now. Sounds harsh I know, but I got rear ended 3 years ago by a girl who had her phone at 12:00 above the steering wheel and was trying to text and drive at the same time .... she managed to flee the scene and get away. I think a lot of those horrible parking jobs were from people jumping on their phones before the ignition key was turned off

Girl at work used to center her car on the lines. She had just come to the country. There were a number of emails sent out by the receptionist explaining how to correctly park a car. After that didnt work someone actually pulled her aside and had to explain to her how to park. Another person didnt understand the relationship between her front bumper and the bushes up against the parking area. She would drive her car into the bushes every day until her front wheels hit the curb. No clue how you can get a drivers license without know how to park.

I agree with this theory. I prefer parking next to nice cars over junkers every time. I figure they feel the same way I do. And when parking in a shopping center that has carts, I would rather be shielded (with a little room) than isolated where a stray could ram me.

All of your theories seem plausible. Maybe he/she is just f'ing with me or maybe he/she just thinks my precious Z needs protecting
