contemplating e90m3

hi all, so as title states I have really been thinking about getting into a lower mileage dct 2008-2010 e90 m3...maybe even e92. Here is my dilema....i love the z4m coupe, it's my only car, and the only car i wanted for so long. BUT, i live in Houston...in town...and i work in town. the roads are rlly terrible here and traffic is stop and go pretty much anytime i am in my car. So i find myself toying with the idea of calling in quits on my coupe.
honestly, the only time i am driving it, it's rlly not enjoyable. Most of the time my wife and i go out at night we'll take her 13' 335. so the times i get to enjoy my car are really dwindling. The comfort of the seemingly softer/auto e90 and e92 m3's is really starting to look appealing, and depreciation on the low mileage 08-10 is looking to be near it's peak. I'm starting to think i'm just not in a location/driving situation that will allow me to enjoy this car much. has anyone else gone through this?
please convince me i am insane

Depreciation is as low as it's going to get? 2008-10 M3 are still selling for $30-40k! $15-20k is more likely the low point of depreciation.

maybe it's better said it's reached a level of depreciation that i would consider. i was looking more at the dif btwn a 2008 with under 40k for $29k...and the same year with 85k miles for 24.5. not too bad. so yeah it might lose value but i wont put more that 5k miles per yr on it and chances are i will keep it for a while.

maybe one day the only v8 m3 will mean something.

Gotcha. If you are going to a larger more luxurious commuter car then you'd be hard pressed to find something better than the M3. Many before you have done the same thing after having a baby. I've heard a lot of people get buyers (sellers?) remorse after they sell their Z4mc, but I don't think many of them have to deal with bad roads and traffic on a daily basis like you do. In your case it doesn't sound like you really get the chance to drive it like you stole it so the M3 could very well be a better fit for you. I'd say go for it, but I have a feeling most people are going to tell you to keep it

As someone who's been contemplating either an IB or SB mcoupe with relatively low miles and a non-black interior (but who won't be in a position to buy anything until next spring/summer), I strongly advise that you think about it for several more months (like, maybe next spring/summer).......

That day is long and far away. Even the vaunted E30 M3, the REAL M3, didn't really start appreciating until it bottomed out about 10 years ago...And that's 15 years after they ceased production.

And on top of that the number of E30 M3s are REALLY LOW in production. Not like the E9X M3s. There's probably what, 20 thousand? 30 thousand? Just in the states...If not more.

*Wow my guess was pretty good. Overall, aggregated production the E9x M3 was 25,xxx for North America.

**A "clean" E30 M3 can probably probably fetch $45-50K today. A clean, LOW mileage garage queen can easily fetch more than $80K. Insane. The E9X M3? Not likely to ever fetch more than it's worth when new.

Haha who knows! It may very well be on the market then!

Hack: good point... Best not to joke with myself and think the car will be truly valuable in the foreseeable future. Guess it would be nice to catch an e9x m3 at a relatively good value for the great car that it is

Do what I did, buy yourself a Ford Ranger, bop around town in that P.O.S. and really enjoy the ZMC for what it is; a racecar with directionals.

I prefer my Honda Ridgeline due to its creature comforts, cabin space and smoother ride. The trunk comes in handy too Not a bad suggestion though. Can the OP swing $10k for a practical car while keeping the Z4?

I have for sure thought abt this as well... It's a good option. Although, everytime I look for something in the 10 k range I end up wanting an e36 m3, not nearly as practical as a small pickup though.

I currently own both a E90 M3 and a Z4M Coupe. I would not hesitate to get an E90M if I could only have one car. In my opinion it is the better car.

Nice, this is kinda what I was thinking... For all around performance, comfort, and some utility. It's tough to beat the e90m3. I do prefer to have 1 go to car.
I think I would miss the styling of the z4m, and some of the raw sporty feel but then again I rarely get to appreciate those traits.
Part of me says pull the trigger....the other says stick it out and keep the z4m. It's an awesome car.

I special ordered a 2011 E90M with DCT and comp suspension to replace my E85 3.0 Z4 (mostly track) AND my 2007 Dodge Charger SRT daily driver. Traded the Dodge but decided to keep the Z4...glad I did! Didn't like the M3 at all. Felt too heavy for track use and rode like a covered wagon. Dumped it after 2 years and bought a 2001 E39 530 which I redid. Love it for street. I'm sure your 335 is nice, too.

OP the E90 M3 is an awesome platform. Very practical and very fast.

Before I went nuts on mine, it used to take the kids to school, go to Home Depot during the week and to the track (HPDE) on the weekend. Now it's body lines aren't as sculptured as a M Coupe but it's still pretty good looking!

Good luck!

Chris

had a nice drive in the z4mc last night and now i'm leaning toward keeping it and maybe slowly doing a few mods to keep it fresh...those few times i can really enjoy it seem like it may be worth the daily frustration. not to mention i still can't get out of it without looking back

Sounds like you made the right choice to keep it and keep it fresh with mods!

I'd be curious to hear what you may mod....

Cheers,

Chris
