New N20 engine after 13k miles!!!

Yep, currently in the shop after BMW approval to replace it. Had juddering, stop start, cutting out at slow speeds problems almost from the day after leaving the dealership. Was 6 weeks off the road for pedestrian protection parts supply problems and then the ongoing "challenge" to fix the problems. Been off the road for 2 weeks now for replacement. The good lady is major pissed off, quite rightly.

Anyone experienced anything similar?

Aware of the US recall on the N20, nothing this side of the pond tho.

I think you may have posted this in the completely wrong sub-forum.
In this little section we like 2 seats only

I don't think any E85/E86 Z4s EVER received the N20 engine.

You are posting in the E85/E86 section.
E89 is a different sub-section.

Here.

Although, I suspect, he might get more responses here in the E85/E86 section than he would had he posted in the E89 section.

No offense to the OP though, the N20 engine is garbage. My friend's F30 328i spent months and months in "the shop" for a variety of issues. Last one was a stumble that ultimately lead to us changing out the spark plug, only to find out that the new, special direct injection in the 4 cylinder require a special tool to install the spark plug (a swivel socket) because the spark plug is inserted at an angle in the spark plug cylinder due to the DI hardware, and without the special tool the fragile spark plug would crack under the angled strain when you torque it to spec...And if you don't torque it to spec it would mis-fire to no end.

Sure, when it runs it was almost as strong as the E36 M3, if you can get over how even the diesel on the 335D is smoother, and the fact that it makes no intake and exhaust noise that you can identify as a "BMW engine."

When it runs.

BMW has needlessly made their engine and line-up so insanely complicated that for all intent and purposes, these cars can not be owned past warranty IMO.

Hope you get it sorted out, the N20 is not BMW's best offering in terms of reliability. I'm going to take a wild stab at it and say injector issue, but I could be wrong.

My wife's n20 equipped 328i runs flawlessly and in sport mode sounds quite nice. Your buddy must have a lemon.

Some of the new 3 series cars, and I expect others in the current lineup, have proximity sensors front and rear that alert you if you are getting too close to something - like a curb / wall while parking - or if someone walks too close to the front / rear of the car while its in drive. That must be what the OP is referring to.

Dude you just jinxed her. Same buddy was talking about how much more reliable his wife's Subaru was compared to his 328i, and sure enough...The AC compressor blew up on his wife's Subaru.

LOL!! I hope not but ya never know! I can say this though - Hell hath no fury like the wife dealing with a service advisor who hasn't fixed her car properly!

Unfortunately for me, hell hath no fury like wife dealing with ME because a service advisor didn't fix her car properly.

Then I turn around and deal the thunder and lighting to the service advisor. Boy I ripped that poor service guy a new mangina so hard he couldn't walk for a week.

Knock on wood so I don't jinx myself again, but I freely admit that the gang at my local dealer have always provided great service. And if they don't get it right first time, they are happy to go back and make it right. So I think the chances of me doing the Loki Hulk smash on any of the local SA's are pretty darn low!

But hey - wasn't this scene classic!
