What did you do around air filter to keep it high pressure?
I am puzzled by a few things: -The 1 inch gap behind the oil cooler that will be high pressure -and there isn't anything in the kit to close off the area around air filter. The stock oil cooler has a piece around it that draws below the radiator, which keeps the radiator high pressure in front, oil cooler high pressure in front, and both have low pressure behind them. I think some things need to be fabricated to maximize the cooling affects of the existing 525 coolers, and stock coolers. DME is to arrive Monday at 12 and then she will be all done. At least for now. |

with all the headaches you're having idk if i should upgrade to the 525 kit anymore the upgrade it expesnice for starters then throw in fuel pump, spark plugs, possible radiator upgrade, plus less reliability and conistnecy on track...would you say its even worth it??
I have the VT1 445 Kit as of now

I will start out by saying I have not removed the fuel pump from the fuel tank so it would certainly be self explanatory IF I did that, BUT, short of that...
Can someone explain to me how the pump "bucket" is retained in the tank? I see that the regulator mounts in the tank opening (with a screw cap), but the fuel bucket is a separate piece. What keeps it from rolling around inside the tank?

2.) Oil cooler location: Yeah it being 1 inch in front of the radiator is not ideal at all especially for the radiator. Unfortunately bc the intercooler is so large there is no place to put it where it has no effect on the radiator and gets good clean air. The only solution which you suggested would be to fabricate ducting (Major PITA but the best option). George |

hey george, being doing some in depth research into plugs ect ect and learning lots of new pieces of info.... interestly VAC use an even cooler plug than the ngk expert recommended for "boosted" s54's.... your link is broken as i would have loved to have had a proper read up from NGK. nice to bat some idea's around btw :-) i go agree however the kit should imo DEFINITELY be coming with a new fuel pump.... And clearly plugs too.... i think with a few choice tweaks you can track this kit hard and enjoy it on track like you did with your VT1.... good luck on your FI path!! its great to have people pushing these kits to the limit!!

Ah gotcha, that should be a negligible effect though at track speed though . If you want to fabricate ducting let me know I'm in lol.

Zionsville radiator installed !
Ok so i've gotten the Zionsville radiator installed. It was a very clean fit despite being a 1/4 of an inch thicker core than OEM. The expansion tanks are aluminum vs plastic and it doesn't have a plastic frame on the bottom so the core is actually several rows taller than OEM as well. I certainly feel better about this radiator on track just on the fact it doesn't have plastic expansion tanks. So its thicker and taller than stock as well as being made of aluminum with slightly larger aluminum expansion tanks. ( Looks promising).
So I went out on the back roads to do some testing with my data logger. Temps and humidity have been sky high here in SC so a prime stress test environment. So with temps in the high 80's with near 90% humidity with the OEM radiator ( 80 water 20% coolant with Mocool) I was seeing water temps after 20 minutes of hard driving (revs continuously above 4k multiple pulls to redline) at the 210 mark with oil temps in the 220's . Yesterday it was 87 with 90% humidity and after the same testing (with Zionsville radiator / 100% distilled water and mocool) I was only able to get the water temps up to a peak of 197 with oil temps stable at 210. That's very encouraging ! Track testing forthcoming in late August. George |

Great news! Great pics. Looks like it makes the most of the available space. Sounds encouraging so far. Wish you had a track day sooner!

And you have A/C and it all buttoned up nicely? That is around $67 per 1 degree. You have to pay to play.
Looks great and we all appreciate you doing this. |

I installed the plugs you recommended but I don't have anything to compare it to.
BTW, are there any adjustments that need to be made to the bypass valve? Should it make a noise? If so, I don't hear anything. Please keep us updated of the temp changes on track. |

thanks for the info on the cooler plugs, mine are en-route, I've had LOTS of miles on this car so looking forward to seeing if they make any difference... my BPV is silent and very slightly audible from outside at 7900rpm gear changes.

I already asked this in another thread but are there any other/better radiator options for our cars? I think the Zionsville was designed with the standard Z4 in mind so a big/cooler option would be more beneficial?

i dont think you COULD fit a bigger one in that the zions unit..... it looks thicker and taller to me and will dissipate heat better just down to the materials used.
