The roadster weighs less than the coupe... 3197lbs for the roadster vs 3230lbs for the coupe.
I did say 'generally'... because it's generally true in convertibles. 30lbs is hardly anything. Still doesn't make the roadster a workable car for my situation.

Values may be rising, but not if people aren't buying!

* Worldwide E85 Z4 Roadster total: 180,856
* Worldwide E86 Z4 Coupe total: 17,094

So, the ratio is: there are more than 10 times as many roadsters as coupes.

It's not about the M --> it's about the shape/body/torsional rigidity etc.

Of the coupes:

* Coupes (non-m) = 12,819
* M Coupes = 4,275 (North America 1,815, rest of world: 2,460)
* E86 Total = 17,094

I'm not worried at all about value. There are people out there willing to pay the price for a nice example. I think it will do better than the Z3 M S54 on account it's the last of its kind in many ways.

A salesman struck up a chat about the car and commented that he had so many requests recently for an E85 - and NOT the current E89, that if he could have gotten his hands on a dozen he could have sold each and every one of them in a week.

LOL, good point!

But his was an earnest comment. He had gotten a lot of requests for E85's as second summer cars for folks but couldn't get his hands on any. My service rep who is a solid no BS guy, agreed and noted that he had also been asked about the availability of used E85's in good condition.

That's funny, the service reps I usually get would have no idea what an e85/e86 is.

We didn't use the term "E85 / E86 during our chat, but instead referred to "the previous canvas top Z4" or words to that affect. I've used E85 / E86 here because most forum folks use that term.

Reminds me of the time I asked them to check for steering fluid leakage, only to be told that Z4s don't have hydraulic steering. I educated him about the difference between the 3.0 and ///M, but he assured me I was mistaken. A few hours later, I get a call informing me that I was indeed correct. Thank god for that; I was beginning to doubt myself.

See? You should use my dealership and while the car is getting properly tended to, we can go check out the icebergs and then there's fish and chips and beer!

There is a really nice berg right outside the harbour but it's been obscured by fog last night. I'll see if I can get you a good pic tomorrow.
