No CEL on the cats either but that is mostly likely due to being FI.

Anyone running Euro headers in the US with this setup? Wondering if anyone is able to run this setup and not get a CEL.

I'm pretty sure the answer is no. I think the best anyone has done is to get the CEL turned off with a tune.

I guess my question is. Has anyone turned the CEL off with a tune and passed emissions?

Exclamation Update

I knew that DKF has had something going on behind the scenes for a while now, from a few things that Doug has mentioned along the way.

He has a new CAT for us and that is what he asked me to post up and let everyone in the GB know.
I recently found out just how much work Doug has been putting in on his own dime ever since the question about getting the CATs to work came about.
I thought it was important to let you guys know as well.

When it became evident that only cars with a tune are able to get the SEL to stay off, he started doing some research.
First, he pursued the vendor of the CATs, and they were adamant that they supplied the proper 300 cell CATs, as ordered.
Doug, did not accept that as fact and decided to have a 3rd party investigate the CATs as supplied to the GB.
This 3rd party is a well known CAT manufacturer, and Doug paid them to investigate a sample CAT from the GB.

The result of this is; they determined that the CATs as supplied to the GB are not 300 cell CATs.
They are in fact 100 cell CATs.
As the 3rd part investigation explained it, a CAT cell count is based, not on the total cells in the CAT, but the cell density per 1 sq inch.
I don't know about you, but I had no idea how to tell a 100 from a 300 cell CAT
With this 3rd party information Doug went back to the original vendor and ultimately has them making a new run of 300 cell CATs for us.

I'm sure I don't have the full scope of what negotiations went on behind the scene to make this happen,
but for all we've been through with this GB I was amazed that DKF stuck it out and made this happen.
Everyone in the GB will be getting a new set of 300 cell CATs sent to directly them.
No need to worry about sending the old ones back.

Doug is asking everyone to email him at DKF to confirm your shipping details.
If there are any stragglers that don't happen to see this update in time for the free direct shipping from vendor; Doug will have their CATs shipped to DKF and they can arrange their shipping with Doug.
It's been an incredibly long haul on this GB with many vendor issues, but I really am happy that DKF stuck with this last CAT issue.
Apparently the new CATs are already in production, we should be hearing soon about shipping dates.

This is great news. I'd sort of lost hope.

Now, I just need to get around to getting a header. On the other hand, I was considering selling my Z4MC, so this will help if I need to sell the DKF system to someone before I sell the Z4MC...

Thanks for keeping on this.

if mine passes emissions with the 100 CeLLs id be so happy.... tbh I'm very pleased with the whole DKF setup.

that was really honest of doug to keep fighting and come through for every body, he actually could have kept quiet and crawled away, but the fact he hasn't says ALOT, ok so it hasn't been a smooth road, i think he and us have earned alot but his integrity as a person speaks volumes, i wish him all the best tbh. Good guy.

TBH, that's kinda what I figured - they weren't 300 cell cats. I was going to have a friend visually check his the next time I made it over, but it sounds like it's been settled. Good to hear!

yes, kudos to DKF on this one for sure...

Now, I have to get a CA smog next week (due Nov 16th)

Right now I am running with the non-cat option on my section 1. Any chance it will pass this way?

a) Should I try as is?
b) Should I put the 100 cell cats on?
c) Should I try and delay for the new cats (non-op or something)?

thx

Do you have stock U.S. headers?

If so, you only have to worry about visual, which is dependent on how observant the test administrator is.

Yes, stock headers for just that reason...

Elated to hear about this for the rest of GBers.

Annoyed that it took this long to gets this sorted out. Even more annoyed that I sold my kit off for a loss not too long ago. So now I have a a set of headers with no Section 1.

>_< ugh..

Appreciate that DKF came through resolving but something like this could've and should've been caught prior to shipping out the kits by a testing kit from the production run rather than hearing from the customer about CELs coming on post installation.

I like this information so much will help alot here in California. However How can I do this?? I was not part of the GBfeom last year but I bought a set from a forum member that end up selling his Z4M before he install his CATs, if I e mail them my information is probably not even register with them at all, what would you recommend me do to be able to get this new pair of Cats that I would like to use when I change my headers next year.

I passed CA smog with that setup.
HC was up a good bit over what it was with secondary cats, but I still had plenty of margin.
And unless you take it someplace really high end, they're not going to know it's supposed to have secondary cats.

Sorry, I just want to clarify. You passed CA smog with stock headers and the resonators installed on your section 1??? That's what I'm running right now and I didn't think that had a shot of passing the tailpipe test.

Tony you definitely *could* pass with that setup. If you're not throwing a CEL and you make sure the cats are hot.
