Radio wont turn off???

Haven't driven the Z4M in a few weeks, and noticed today, that when i turn off the car, the radio stays on (never did that before). I tried leaving it on, and when i came back an hour later the radio was off--but i could turn it back on (without the key). Anyone had this happen? I plan on disconnecting the battery overnight to see if this fixes.

might be related to the door switch? do your overhead lights come on when you open the door? If the radio isnt getting the signal from the door to turn off that could do it. I haven't seen my car in a year, but I'm pretty sure they have that function where the radio keeps going after ignition off until the door is opened.

Mine does not - mine fades out with the key in my 2004. I always wondered why it does not stay on until the door is opened like most cars from that time frame (my 2005 Aviator and my GF 2005 TL both did that) but mine dies either when the key is rotated to the last stop or when it is removed.

In my car anyway.

Indeed, mine used to fade out when the key was turned off, but now it stays on even when the door is open and closed. Tried locking and unlocking with the fob and key, but radio was still playing. Weird that when i came back an hour later, the radio was off, but could be turned back on. I believe that prior to this, the radio couldn't be turned back on without the key.

If you have the Nav it turns off right away, the normal radio should turn off when you open the door.

I had issues with my battery dying if I let the car sit for more than 2 days. I ruined 2 batteries in the last year in and a half. It turns out that my radio was not going to sleep - it was pulling a full 2 amps even with the car turned off. Not quite the same issue as you are experiencing, but be careful.

I do not have Nav in my 2004 and mine dies with the key, not with the door. Mine might be odd, but that is what it does.

Well i tried disconnecting the batt overnight, and that didnt work (also found that the PO had replaced the battery with a H5). I eventually pulled the radio, and re-installed it, and that seemed to take care of it

Now just today, the AUX input would disappear after being used. All radio functions seem to work fine, but when i use the AUX, it only works for a few seconds, then the AUX option disappears (switches to radio, and AUX is no longer available). Wondering if i should try to find one on eBay?

That happens to me when I try to charge my phone and listen to music at the same time. Ground loop.

Thanks, psygnosis. I am not charging my iPhone, and i tried 2 different 3.5mm cables and 2 different iPhones, with the same result. Its weird that the AUX worked fine for several weeks (just installed it a few weeks ago), and now almost instantly switches to radio when AUX is selected. One weird thing to note, if AUX is selected and cable is plugged into the radio & iPhone, it wont switch to radio until i start playing on the iPhone.

Also, does anyone know what the interchange part numbers are for this radio? I have found many different styles of radio that show they will fit but look different and have different part numbers (Mine has a copper back, and several had aluminum fins on the back--and plug oriented 180deg).

Real OEM shows part number 65129205279 ($581.56 at www.getbmwparts.com). They show five other numbers which say ended for the same radio: 65126976889, 65129130168, 65129136884, 65129150590, 65129189963

I am assuming you have the standard NON nav business radio. I just looked up the other radios for 2006 and none have a 671XXX part number. Don't know what to tell you.
