What's this squeal on start up? Belt, pulley, something else?

So during cold starts my 2004 3.0i makes make loud squealing noise. Any idea what it could be?

I have a similar sound occasionally; I think it is the starter recoil?

jesus thats a nasty noise. I would also guess starter. I assume the noise was present both before and after you replaced the starter?

Maybe its a belt or pully thats getting stuck on start up, and the rest of the pullys turning kind of yanks the belt and makes that noise?

No the noise is recent, I replaced the starter a little while ago when what ultimately tuned out to be a bad key.

the only other thing I replaced with respect to belts/pulleys was a worn out mechanical belt tensioner and that sound was different than this

I would check alternator and power steering pulley. Check power steering fluid level. Also check water pump bearing. I had similar noise and thought it was the alternator pulley because I installed an old alternator. A few months later, my water pump when out.
