Buying BMW 2006 Z4 4.0 I today.

Hello all.
I am new to this forum. I am going to buy a 2006 Z4 3.0I later today. It is black with 50K miles, manual transmission. Good condition...... I have a concern about purchase extended service warranty the dealer offers. Should I buy the extended service warranty or just save the money for a rainy day? Your advice is much appreciated.

Skip it and save that money towards maintenance and unscheduled repairs aka "dammit!"

Start your own "rainy day" fund. When you read the fine print on most of the 3rd party extended warranty policies you'll see they don't cover anything related to the convertible top, which is the most likely part of the car to need repairs.

Not having the policy means you MIGHT have to pay for a couple thousand dollar repair sometime during your ownership of the car. Buying the policy GUARANTEES you'll pay several thousand dollars in policy premiums over a 3 year period.

Any extended warranty means paying those extra benjamins for a peace of mind. With the Z4 being a pretty reliable bmw, it's unlikely that you will get hit with something costing a couple of grand (except top) in the near future. Not to say that it won't happen, it's unlikely.

I personally brought my Z4 last year without an extended warranty. I found a few good indy shops and will go to them when necessary.

I did the same. New to Florida and have found numerous BMW specific shops and some are good and some are very good at what they do.

Find a great Indy shop and save lots of money over dealership.

Smart move. $6K will buy a TON of maintenance and you will be sure to get all of it back if you put it in your own "BMW maintenance account" at the bank.

I just bought a 2008 Z4, and did get the extended warranty. $2,600 for four years or 48,000 miles. Not a bad deal for peace of mind. 😉

I would ask the dealer (or owner) if there's an existing extended warranty on the car already with some time left - generally they are transferable to the next owner.

But otherwise like others have said - probably not worth it.
